Can anyone from the Bib help me please

My Girl friends new mini keeps being vandalized or getting things stolen from it. So far:

Aerial was stolen £10
Car was keyed £652
Chrome mirror caps stolen £77
Chrome mirror caps stolen again £77

We have reported the chrimes 4 times, the car is parked on the road across our dropped car, blocking our garage. We live in London and the chrime always occurs on the last day of the week ie a Sunday night or monday if its a bank holiday. We have been advised to park the car in front of our house, because our garage is at the side in different street.

We have also been told by the officer the front desk to put up cctv and ensure it covers the car and some of our property but not anyone elses property. But today the Crime prevention officer called and said cctv would be illegal.

Our concern is that we want to catch who is doing it, in case its a neighbour and before we get the respray done. But obviously dont want to break the law catching them!

Any other tips greatfully received.

cheers

Simon

You can film whatever you like in a public space. If its private land you need permission of the landlord. If the private land belongs to you, then obviously you don't need permission. You can film private property from public land or your own private property, just don't intrude on anybody's privacy (ie zoom into bathroom window).

In a public space, anybody can film anything they like, children, old people, cars, politicians, royalty. There are no laws to prevent this.

So yes, you can install a camera and point it at your vehicle, and record whatever you like. Just don't point the camera directly at a neighbour's window (I mean zoomed in so you catch the neighbour undressing etc).

By the way, a camcorder is not a CCTV system.

Yep police told me to do the same when my garage was done over, no problems. And were quite happy to accept a neighbours camera footage from 2 doors down to see it that had anything on. Didn't catch the buggers though

Unfortunately, when you do catch the scum on film, the police won't be at all interested in your evidence...

Some mates & a baseball bat & a transit van

It might just do the trick, if the law won't work on your behalf than many will see nothing wrong with a bit of DIY. I would'nt think twice about giving the scrote a good warning of a very severe pasting. Then find out who they are where they live etc, make it known to them that any further trouble & they are for the high jump.

I seem to remember a thread about a PH'er catching a scrote red handed keying cars, locked the scrote in his garage & invited a few mates round. Plod saw it as fine, his parents ended up paying for the repairs on the keyed cars too.

As you can tell I have had to deal with scrotes before, it worked.

We have CCTV on our cars at my office. It covers the car parking spaces and some of the road too.

Twice we have handed the tapes to the police and on one of those occasions our tape aided a conviction when it caught some chav picking up rocks and throwing them at cars, windows, etc. Turns out he was wanted for a few things and although he wasn't apprehended at the time, some of his "friends" who were with him at the time were. They then told the police where he could be found.

The police have never said anything about us not being allowed to use CCTV.

I've had CCTV to watch my car parked in the streeet outside the house for four years, since my first M3 was stolen. The CPO has seen it and had no problem with it. None of the neighbours has complained.

There was a case within the last 12 months where a homeowners own CCTV footage convicted a burgular.

I'd stick a webcam in the garage and one on the front of the house.

One of my best mates had paint thrown up is front door 3 times aver a couple of month period...more than just anoying he was quite worried as he could think of no one he'd upset who could be miffed at him and wondered how far it could go.

Police eventually set up a camera looking at his front door and he set up a small cam in his front window, but it never happened again....very strange. He did quite often catch the fit girl who lived oposite getting into her car though

Thanks.

Ironically we have a camera in the garage covering the TVR and telling us if the door is open but not one outside. I am going to build a recording PC so I have a few weeks worth of footage next time they do it!

You get them from B&Q, and they can plug into a standard VCR.. We got one to cover our drive after our Lotus had the window staved in...

If CCTV is a problem, try fake cameras instead. The scrote(s) won't know and any crime should cease. A couple of such fakes, mouted high up, at night, will look just like the real thing. Just don't tell anyone the truth, except the police if they ask.

I know I saw one site gives you a fake freeone with every real one you buy. They both look the same! Anyone using geovision? if so, do you like it?

I am. It works perfectly. I just open up the interface and can review the footage from each camera, event by event.
