Foam rubber cars
Discussion
Certain times, usually on a long walk back from a pub
, I've considered the
idea of the "safety car." This is basically a foam rubber car, with a purple flashing light on top, limited to 20mph. Drunks could drive these cars back from distant pubs, and the foam rubber nature of the vehicle would mean that they could not hurt anyone else in the event of an accident.
Obviously this is a ludicrous plan to absolve unfit drivers of their responsibility to drive safely. However, viewed in the light of the way road safety policy is going these days, with it's draconian eforcement, politicaly driven reduction of perfectly safe speed limits (NSLs), and apparent lack of focus on the real issues that cause accidents, what is the real logical difference between current policy and my foam rubber car idea?
If we are to be bullied by the safety nazis into driving at speeds orders of magnitude below what is safe, why not just say fek it, I'm taking no responsibility whatsoever, 'cause the nanny state's done it all for me, I may as well be driving my foam rubber car. Of course, heavy rain may not be good for a vehicle made principaly of sponge but at least it might get the streets clean
