Morning all

Coming up the M1 through Northants this morning went passed an 06 Volvo estate police car (he was doing the usual 60-65) which had a camera mounted in a cradle in the back window...

Is this just for observing or does it record speed???

Thanks

They do have rear facing speed cameras now in patrol cars.

Saw two cameras facing backwards inside traffic car on the M1 yesterday - looked like anpr to me.

Are you sure? I know the video cameras can be forward or rear facing but surely a speed camera would need some complicated calibration?

Could you give more detail?

AFAIK: Lasers are not allowed to be used through glass. Radars are not allowed to be used from within a vehicle (does radar even pass through glass?). Perhaps you mean VASCAR cameras?

Vascar can be used with the video footage while in front or behind the target vehicle.

It's merely video and/or ANPR ...... it won't do you for speed on it's own.

Sorry let me elaborate, my initial post wasn't very clear.

Obvoiusly I didn't see the device so I am guessing that it is part of the patrol cars VASCAR system. VASCAR can be used when following a vehicle or when driving ahead of one. When the patrol car is ahead of the vehicle the second rear view mirror in the patrol car comes into play. Do remember that VASCAR is only an average speed calculator and recorder.

Alternatively of course it could just be a video camera (as normally found on a swivel mount in the front of the patrol car)
