My first ticket!
Discussion
After 14 years of trouble-free and generally very restrained driving I finally got caught by a bleeping speed camera. I am generally careful driving around towns but was far from home on a road I don’t know. 45 in a 30 (it looked like a nice wide, clear A road to me but was a 30). I won’t go into the whole speed camera argument here, suffice to say telling somebody they have misjudged the speed limit ten days after the event and on a road they have never been down and probably never will again, has virtually no impact on road safety I far as I can see. Other than making me brake for every bloomin’ camera in the future.
Anyway…
Should I ask for the photographic evidence? Any chance it will do any good? How do I do this?
It says “Notice of Intended Prosecution” on it, is that usual? I assume this is a ‘normal’ speeding ticket.
What will I get?
Thanks

"Claiming that you didn't do it is now not really an option because you have admitted it on a public forum."
Er, yeah possibly, I didn't really thiunk that through did I?
Actually I find it hard to believe I was going that fast but what can you do? I've no evidence and no real right to question their evidence. It could have said 50 or 35 and I would be in the same position: defenceless.

Well yes. I know *everybody* else here keeps to 30, don't you?
On a more serious note, I will be more careful when there are streetlights about to stick to 30 unless I am absolutely sure the limit is higher. Assumptions are no excuse. I want to avoid sudden braking every time I see a camera for a start.

Or spend the time that you would have gone to the court time in reading up what a 30 speed limit looks like.
That's a bit harsh 7db. Most of us look out for the signage, after all that's what it's there for. Maybe it wasn't visible and said driver thought he was in a 40? He was just unlucky like a lot of good drivers. This is probably why the trap was placed where it was, to get the highest number of 'hits'.
CML, take a look at the route again if possible and check the signs.
