The missus just got a fine through the post. Says it was a silent laser checkpoint. It was last Friday night and I saw the Bib car on the other side of the dual carridgeway. She had just come off the roundabout and was booting it. She has got done for 58 in a 40, three points and £60. No photo, just a letter from the BIB saying that she has to pay. Now, she was speeding, however late on a Friday night empty dual carridgeway and they were on the other carridgeway. Now, she was speeding, however is it worth contesting or is it worth just folding and paying the fine...

I wonder what technology they used to get her from across the road like that? Must have been a sharpish angle with perhaps a central barrier and even other traffic in the way.

I'd certainly want to look at the evidence they have after all without a calibrated speedometer how can she know she was speeding?

So what has she received? An NiP?
Tell us exactly what she has got and you will receive some good advice.

I guess if you want then ask for a photo.

Apart from that, I would say pay the taxman.

I am! Are you honestly trying to claim proof beyond reasonable doubt based on a speedometer reading? I'm throwing this one out of court -- come back when you have some credible evidence.

I'm not disputing that she was going over the speed limit, she booted it off the roundabout in second to near the redline so I would estimate that 58 is correct. What I am disputing is if they have enough evidence to convict based on two cops with a laser gun on the other carridgeway.

2 cops professional opinion is all they need - the laser gun is irrelevant
