Amusing tale of an encounter with North Wales police.

saw this tale on the midland speed championship board, its the saga of Tara collinsons journey to and from the angelsy circuit, made me laugh out loud!
This tale is for all those that have woosed off from an event this year just because they could not wear their helmet or had put a winy dint in a new trailer (tee hee). Started out well, left home (Shepperton) 10:30 Friday morning. Got to Oswestry services about three. Went in for fuel and they are ripping the place apart. Tried to leave and wacked a trailer wheel on a big slab! Wheel was buggered. Never mind I thought and put on the spare. Off I go again. 10 mins down the road I look in the mirror to see smoke pouring from it. As I was on the A5 I did not fancy pulling over on the road so crept it to a shell station. Bloody spare was a 165 rather than a 155! Yes Martin I know my problem is not dotting the i's and crossing the t's. It had shaved a good bit of rubber off! Only option was to get the hammer out, which I did not have, so I used the jack to wack the daylights out of the trailer to get clearance. Sorted I thought. Off I go again. 2 mile from Anglesy bridge the other half calls me on the mobile to see if I have arrived. Just as I piick it up North Wales boys in blue drive past. On go the Blue lights! Bugger again.
Gave no excuses, said I was really sorry. No chance. They said forget it they are giving me a fixed penalty. Then we get the fun and games. Turn your Van wheels in they ask. Oh your tyres are illegal get them changed. I say no bloody way and got out the 4 week old MOT. They repeat they are not legal so I said get out a guage then. Then one of them goes around the back of the trailer and wants to do a full lights check. So we get through the full monty of checks. Still I'm clean. Then they want to check my Lic. I've not got it so me so they get onto the DVLA. They then say the DVLA have no record of me having a road lic. I tell them I've had one for 20 years and if they write me a producer I'll prove it at my local station. Then things took a turn for the worst. They said I did not have a Lic and they were going to confiscate the van and trailer!!!!!! Into the car son they said. I was like no bloody way mate are you taking the f'ing van write me a producer. Nope they said into the car! So I walked towards the car then legged it round the front of the van, jumped in, and locked the door. For a second I think they thought I was going to try and drive off but I put the keys on the dash and folded my arms. They shout get out of the van now. I'm like no way your not getting this van. They said right we will smash the window. I said I'll do you for criminal damage this is out of order I've got a Lic. So then I think I know I'll phone the wife, get her to read me the Lic number and they can run another check. So I tell them this is what I'm gonna do. They shout get out of the van or we will call for back up. I reply you can send for batman mate I'm not getting out of the van. Other half in at brownies so I impress upon her the urgency of the matter. While waiting for the details true to their word a van of the boys in blue turn up. I,m well outnumbered now! Get the call and write it on a bit of paper and hold it up to the window, they look it up again and have to conceed I do have one. So they ask me to get out again so they can give me the fixed penalty. I refused and made them pass it through a 2 mil gap in the window. Once they had left I started her up and got on my way.
Arrived about 8ish! Phew. Top racing Sat. Do not know what came over me Sunday but just got all leary with the car. Red mist.. Chucked it off at abbots big time!!!!!! Top save though. Resue crew were impressed. Well done Pete on Sunday. I now need to check the suspension and setting before Cad. So I thought what else could possibly go wrong?
Set off on Monday morning 6am. Break for the boarder!!! 20 miles before Wrexham I think I'll pull over and check that wheel on the trailer. I have a look and its suddenly decided to run a load of camber. Bugger again. Bearing... So I take it apart nip it tight and hope. Check it 50 miles later RED HOT. Bugger its never gonna make London. So I creep it to Shres A5 services and call the AA. Its noon. AA turn up at 3 with a flatbed. Look at the trailer, suck their teeth and tell me its too wide. They say there is nothing on the fleet that will carry it. I'll need to hire a commercial!!! He says he knows one down the road. Bugger Bugger Bugger. So off we go. Talk to the bloke and he says it will cost me £720 and the wagon will be available in 5 hours. So I go out to the van to have a think. I tell the AA bloke who is still outside and he says there is a trailer company 25 miles away near Ludlo. He says it may not make it but its another option. So I think what the hell lets try the trailer company. Creep down there and they are a top bunch of boys. Sell me everything I need. 2 Tyres (which fit!) 1 wheel and four sets of bearings. So I drop the racecar out, jack up the trailer and spend the next 3 hours bolting the new stuff on. So off I set again. I get back to Shrew services, where I called the AA at noon, at 7pm and I've still got to get to shepperton! I get home at 11pm sitting in a pile of empty red bull tins.
Am I upset or peed off? No way. Given my off at Abbots my car could be 3 foot shorter and I would be fully utilising my BUPA coverage. So I must have used four days luck missing the tyre wall. In the end after and adventure of a weekend like that you just have to laugh
I look forward to the tow to Cadwell on Friday

There seems to be a pattern here if this is to be believed that Heddlu Gogledd Cymru are using the 2005 Act to confiscate cars from their owners as a matter of routine where the (well flawed) DVLA and MIDS database fail to confirm insurance or licence.
In several cases reported in the Liverpool Daily Post, the local paper, they have done so leaving the owner standing on the side of the road miles from anywhere.
And people have such touching faith in ID cards etc.

I thought the honours system for people in public work roles was based mostly on how much media coverage thay achieved, measured in TV and Radio airtime and newspaper and magazine column inches.
Easy to see how he would be included.

Doesn't really matter, the honours system is a complete joke anyway. If it was run by anybody with even a modicum of intelligence then "he" would receive the honour of a good boot out the door

Might be worth you checking out the RAC Reflex Service only available through the Caravan & Camping Club.
When I was looking looking for cover for my motorhome they were the best option available - about £130 (plus C&CC membership about £30) pa for my wife and myself in ANY vehicle we are in with no limitation on size.
