an 'aquaintance' of mine is a bit of a knob. That's putting it very lightly to be honest, but its a family show n all... He is also an appalling driver from what I've been told (I wouldn't get in a car with him to find out) and quite probably shouldn't be on the road. Consequently, he hardly ever notices speed camera's, let alone slows for them.

Net result is his wife has 9 points on her licence (all his) and he has even shared points amongst other friends and family, it's got to the point where he's now been known to try and sell them to people, because he already has 9 point on his licence and the latest batch of fines being processed are going to take him waaaay beyond 12 points. He has court cases pending for yet more.

So... when yet another NIP came through the post he decided yet again to say his wife was driving, filled in the form appropriately and sent it off, only to get a photo by return asking if he could confirm it was his wife with a full beard and 'tash that could clearly be identified in the picture

Hilarious, but sounds like he's screwed unless he can get her to grow a beard!

Seriously...it's for the common good. Go and explain to plod that that pic ain't his wife.
Getting off on a technicality is one thing, sticking it on (a willing party) is wrong and is something I would like to see clamped down on.

IM not awear of one case where a speed cam picture has been used in court for evidence orf who was driving by the cps. I belive there must be a reson why they dont use em for ID evidence.

Probably because they have you over a barrel beforehane and you have already admitted that it was you, so why bother "muddying the waters" with a dubious photo.

I still don't understand why I must "dob in" the missus etc if they are caught speeding, any other area of law I'm protected from having to incriminate myself or my spouse am I not? Actually, I do know..because it's a lawless society and the rot is spreading from the top.

Tigger1.

It is because the European Court is not fully au fait with the doctrine of separation of powers and therefore often passes down judgments of a political nature. Speeding is a Euro wide tax scheme (sorry, SAFETY system) and thus the court held that whilst if one was to rape and murder a small child one ought to be given some protection and maintain a right to silence, when it comes to driving at quite frankly death defying speeds of nearly 35mph in a 30 limit, one must be brought to justice swiftly.

because they aren't good quality, and often, there is a rear view mirror stuck right across the drivers face, making him unidentifiable except for the aforementioned facial foliage

(based on the german ones i've seen [of other people, obviously ])

But isn't our (democratically elected)Government entitled to vear slightly away from these Doctrines, at least for a certain amount of time? Sorry, but I just don't buy into this "blame the EU" approach on this occasion...espescially as so much of Europe isn't plagued by the one-track minded-ness of the powers that be in this country.

Anyway, when has the EU been an excuse for basic principles of law to be ignored, it is there to uphold and defend these principles, not the other way around.
