I have been told by my secretary that her boyfriends mate was stopped last night by a undercover police car at 140 mph on the M1! Nissan Skyline TypeR. Anyone able to let me know what the likely ban will be? BTW, this is a real situation and is nothing to do with me! Wouldn't be seen dead in a Skyline (tee hee) and altho' my wheels are good for 155, I couldn't countenance going that fast on a Brit road, it'd scare me to death!!

Have no knowledge of jap cars at all! Have I got the name wrong? If so, sorry! It wasn't the car that was the important part of the thread but hey ho, whatever rocks your socks!

Probably a £750, plus costs and a one-year ban as a starting point.
Rather unwise to do that speed on a M'way. Be better to do it on a straight 'B-road' in the early hours of the morning.

140 mph, depending on what else he was doing, they might go for dangerous driving, shouldnt get a custodial.

I imagine you mean a GT-R. Next question would be R33 or R34?

Only joking

I think it'll depend an awful lot on the circumstances (ie. was traffic light, were the conditions good etc) and then how vigerously the charge is defended. It would be interested to hear if there was a defence, or just mitigation.

Assuming not a wind up, likely to be 12-18 months ban.

BIG fine.

If they decide to make an example then could be dangerous driving and that can mean jail. Did he try to evade being stopped? Did he weave about? Were other cars in the vicinity.

He should............

1. Get a solicitor.
2. Get a decent suit and some polished shoes. Without tassles. Or buckles.
3. Get a sensible haircut
4. Get references about character from employer/vicar/probation officer
5. Lose the ear ring and the baseball hat if has them; and
5. Go in there and say how sorry he is and how he has sold the car and won't be doing it again.

And pack a toothbrush.

And soap.

On a rope.

If my address were No 10 Downing Street, or ideally that Georgian pad at SW1A 1AA (assuming a return to absolutism), this chap would be applauded gently then awarded the DFC.

So many shortarses these days, not enough wearers of the heroic goggle.

140mph...going for the land speed record then!?

Which section of the M1 was this? In a skyline, not exactly going to do him any favours, obviously he'll immediately be branded a "yob" driving a "modded sportscar".

I had a BMW and a Merc pass me Saturday morning on A50 near Stoke doing 120+ (estimate), they were moving very quickly away from me. Those two chaps would have been in big trouble if caught..."racing"

And yes, type-r is a honda badge.

Always amazed at how people get 'done' at these speeds, if I'm making progress and someone is following me I always slow to let them pass. Its a worthwhile precaution, if they slow with you then something is up.

It seems to me that people caught at very high speeds have, in the past, been charged with dangerous driving purely on the basis of the high speed involved. More recently there have been cases where the 'dangerous' element has been thrown out by a court, leaving it simply as a speeding offence, thus taking away the risk of a custodial sentence. If you ask me it's all nonsense anyhow.

I now await the arrival of Von to tick me off, again!!

Good luck though to whoever is involved.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I would imagine the Milton case, once it's been to court again, will have an impact on charges of Dangerous Driving relating to pure speed.

Hardly. 140 mph is merely BMW 320 territory.

Custodial for 140 mph is IMHO the stupidest thing I've heard
all week.

If he'd injured or killed someone I'd have said custodial
might have been suitable, but for merely driving a bit faster than
the rest of the traffic a fine only would surely be appropriate ?

The prisons are full.
I can think of a lot more deserving cases than this one
for custodial.
