Thought this would entertain/send people apopletic:

Last weekend while visiting the parents in South Derbyshire I was driving through Repton (for those of you that don't know it, ancient capital of Mercia, home to Repton School since the 17th century, and frequent den of hair-dryer equipped plod) when I came upon what appeared at a distance to be a PC with arm outstretched, radar gun in hand just on the boundary where the speed limit goes from 40 to 30mph (I was coming up the hill from the 30 so the "PC" had his back to me). Naturally alarm bells went off and the limit was observed. However, once I got closer it became apparent that this was no ordinary member of our beloved law enforcement agencies - it was a f@@king dummy dressed in a police uniform, reflective jacket etc. with a fake radar gun outstretched. At its feet was a large sign that said "Gotcha!" and then some nimby bollox about the speed limit la-la-la.

What the hell do these people think they are playing at? I was about ready to nip home, pick up the 3ft long axe handle my Dad used to keep under the bed to "re-educate" burglars and go and redesign said fake plod.

The mindset of these losers who have bought into the lentilist "motorists as babykillers etc" mantra and then have combined that with their own petty nimby attitude... grrrrr!! Words fail me!

File along with sad individuals with fake scameras in their front gardens...

Would love it if someone drove into their front wall (without injury) and sited as the reason that they were too busy looking in bemusement at the manikin in high vis vest etc!

Serve the tree huggers right, anybody want to bet that the house smells of petulia oil and has paisley all over the place?

Can't understand this. It slows people down a bit, makes them be a bit more aware and observant (for a while anyway), and it cannot stop you or give any points? You'd rather it was a real trafpol would you?

It might act as a deterrent to those who only use the road very rarely, but for locals who use it all the time (and perhaps the ones who get 'forget' the limit from time to time) they'll soon ignore it.

Far better to have a real officer there from time to time.

Curious as to why the person who put this out (unless it is Plod's) doesn't get done for perverting the course of justice?

Does it really matter? At least it can't give you any points and if you slow for it, where's the harm in that?

Anyone up for getting another dummy, putting a huge strap on rubber cock on it, and arranging the said Fake Cop so that it's getting it up the pipe...........

That would make the point.

Well it matters because it shows there is a body of people in a position to spend council tax money who are hard of thinking. If you had someone in your company with the authorisation to spend its money and they were frivolous you'd fire them.

Sadly you won't even know which member of the collective was actually responsible to this even to write to them.

I can never understand why nobody ever stands up in one of the meetings producing this kind of "idea" pointing out the facts of the matter.

After all what's wrong with a nice sign saying "Welcome to our village, please drive courteously and safely". It credits people with the intelligence to decide how best to do that.

The worst waste of money I ever saw were a number of signs on the Thelwall Viaduct on the M6 near Warrington. They took our eyes off of the car in front to tell us to be aware of 'Workmen Under Bridge'. For those who dont know the road it is very much a motorway which goes *over* the bridge.

My only qualm with the cut-out man would be what would happen if the typical bad driver with no observation skills sees them late and slams their brakes on and the other typical bad driver is not keeping the right distanc eor observation levels and drives into the back.

Would there be any repercussion against the cut-out maker?

Can there be, legally?

If there were are real bobby on the next bridge and the cut out caused everyone to slow down, would the CPS push for perverting the course of justice!?

You know what will happen ......

The dummy will be there for a few weeks (assuming it's not nicked/burnt/knocked down), and eveyone will get used to it and then most will ignore it and the speed limit.

Then one day, it will be replaced by a real one, which those folks will ignore until it's too late.

I can just see that happening

Does that come under 'impersonating a police officer'?

Rather like those cardboard cutout replica police cars they used to place on bridges over motorways. Do they still do that?

Best wishes all,
Dave.

How about just strapping the rubber cock in place of the speed camera and replace the tag line with "get used to it!"
