I have just had the misfortune of paying my road tax so i can contribute to the miles of cones delaying my journey home for a 2 foot square hole in the road. Anyway, Iv just done it online and paid it etc but it says that the disc will be sent out in 4- 5 days, by which time my old disc will have run out, what do I do? nothing? put a stickier saying "in the post" on my windscreen? Pardon me if this is a silly question but this is my 1st car

Yes, a card stating "In the Post" is fine as far as I know as it's application can be checked

Whilst I would hope under the above circumstances any self respecting BiB and private Jobsworthy would not take action they could for Section 33 Vera 1994 requires one to be displayed at all times.

Last time I got mine I printed out the receipt that the DVLA provides and kept that on top of the dashboard until the disc turned up a few days later. It confirms that you have purchased it for that particular car and they can check your plate against the national record anyway. Can't believe they would get too grumpy about that. Mind you I'm going to have to do this myself this weekend as well.

not sure on the legal situation, but normally now it's all checked online, so if you have paid the police can check online to see if you have paid,

Given that the government think their database systems are so great, why do we need to display a tax disc anyway?

As DVD said ---

two offences -

1----no tax
2 ----not displaying valid tax disk.

Although it is hoped that any decent BIB might check with DVLA and consider reciept - till law changed and reciept is legal proof - no valid disk - car not legal.
