I've noticed that quite a lot of the laybys on dual carriageways in East Anglia have been modified so that there's a section at the start which is closed off, but with removable poles around it and concrete surfacing inside. The closed off area is always at the start of the layby , i.e nearest to the oncoming traffic.

I've seen them on the A47 near Norwich and the A14 near Cambridge as well as a few other places, there may be similar arrangements in other parts of the country too but being a Norfolk boy they dont let me out very often

It looks as though the area is being reserved for use by something, my cynical guess being a Talivan, but as I've never seen anything parked on one I dont really know.

Can anyone shed any light on what these are for ?

...and whether 'they' have the right to cordon off bits of public road for their own use?

For foreign camper vans to dispose of their toilet waste chemicals on I think we ought to start a national campaign to encourage them to do so
