Dorset Camera Partnership are advertising in tonight local paper. There are posts for Camera Team Supervisor, Camera Team Technical Advisor/Supervisor, Fixed Penalty Department Supervisor and a Driver Awareness Scheme Driving Instructor Supervisor all with salaries between £18000 and £21,500 pa.
There are also 5 posts, one office based and 4 "Deployable posts" for Fixed Penalty Enquirery Officers at £18,000 pa. Their job description is "to contact individuals who do not respond to notices and determine next course of action". it appears from their meeting posted on their web site to "encourage drivers to accept the offer of FPN's as fines issued by a court go direct to the treasury". Expect visits ad phone calls pointing out the advantages of accepting the offer of a FPN as a visit to court could lead to a larger fine plus more points.
At an average of £20,000 pa these posts are going to cost the best part of £200,000 and at £60 per time thats over 3,000 FPN's just to pay for them.

by phoning people up and trying to talk them out of their right to a Court of Law, cant this be construed as "interfering with the course of Justice" or something

Isn't it from next year that the SCP's will be given a fixed budget to operate with, and all proceeds raised will go directly to the treasury?
Perhaps they are expanding now while they still can. The larger they are the more operating costs they will be able to claim? Do they have to submit a business plan to the government, who then allocate ££££££ accordingly?

Yes
The combined budget for 2007 is about £110million I believe.

Not just 200K one off payment, that's 200 K rolling per year.
All for something that might turn the locals into slower drivers,
but won't turn them into safer drivers.
Seems a horrible waste of money to me.
200K would go a long way on training locals to drive safer
and or improving dangerous roads / junctions etc.
Local newspaper article time ?

I think a PHer should apply. Espionage.....
Most PHers wouldn't get out of bed for that money
To be honest, the way my job prospects are looking at right now I'd do almost anything for that kind of money (Take note any PHers in West of Scotland looking for staff / teaboy / slave).
I'd last six months mind you after my sabotage work is discovered, but it would be fun to cause them trouble.
Tempting...

You're in enough trouble, Kenny!

You might be right
And being a member of one the most hated groups of people in the UK probably wouldn't be much fun

I wonder what they'd say, if in a language class - topic was saying what you do for a living?
Or in the pub or on holiday...in chit-chat ..

I bet they never admit what they do. They would rather admit to being brothel keepers or pox-clinic administrators!
Imagine if you meet a friend of a friend in a pub... Soo, what do you do?? Oh, shall we step outside and discuss it further??
Mate of mine is plod, and he told us he did the radar gun thing once.. We didn't speak to him for a month, and he never volunteered for it again....
200,000 pounds ?
And the rest. Most companies figure on spending the same as the salary on office space, IT and healthcare.
400,000 pounds.
When you add pensions and the rest of the civl service guff it works out closer to 500,000 pounds a year.
And once these parasites are attached to us, they won't let go.

Hmmm...at £60/time, that, by my reckoning, is 1.83million speeding fines a year, just to cover the costs of these highway robbers.
Anyone know how many FPN's were issued last year?
By another reckoning, that's also £6m per 'life saved' last year.
Surely someone can think of a better way of ensuring 'road safety'?!?
