So our lovely council have recently desegnated one lane of the A690 dual carrigeway a bus lane. Am I right in assuming that the speed limit for cars travelling in the outside lane (i.e. the only lane available to them) is still 70?

Cheers
Mick

is there seperation from the "other" carriageway (opposite flow of traffic)? If there is, it's still dual carriageway.

Until an HGV takes 7 miles to crawl past a bus.

Passing a bus doesn't matter - there's only one lane available anyway.

providing the separation is a permanent construction or land. and the limit is NSL then it is 70.

Painted tarmac does not qualify as land btw. A central grass reserve does count as land, especially if kerbs marke the boundary.

Plenty of one lane dual cabbageways in Worcestershire, prev 2 lane each way reduced by paint to one lane each way, and further reduced by limits to 40/50 and monitored by the scamps.

And STILL they hit each other, so obviously the planners and scamps have found the right answer....not.

And with slippery overbanding-like lines curving gently across the lane on bends where the lane dividing lines used to be, at such a shallow angle that going round the bend on a bike you end up with both wheels on the slippery bit while cornering unless you kind of jag sideways to cross the line upright. Just what you want in greasy weather. Not.

Thanks for responses guys. Yes it's proper dual carrigeway, with grass/crash barrier between the lanes, so I would expect the limit to be 70. The inside lane becomes a bus lane just after the last sliproad onto it going towards town, which just happens to be my junction, making joining from that junction quite problematic.

Worst bit is that it's only a buslane 7am-7pm mon-sat, but people don't read the signs and pull into the outside lane even when it's not in operation, and usually doing 50-60 too. So what's the legality of me using the (inoperative) bus lane and 'undertaking' those numpties?
