I've heard that this country (UK) do not pursue foreign number plates and therefore lose £xx revenue/year. Seem to remeber reading it in the press about 6 months ago. I would think it is reasonably safe to assume that (after 6 months) France and Switzerland do the same.

Yep. Having foreign plates on your car is the easiest way to get out of a ticket... AFAIK they just don't pursue them any further.

I think that the French, English, Spanish and some other government have just got their act together. You can now be done for speeding, you won't get points though.

Now...that's the theory, if they can't be bothered to phone their english colleagues -which I'm sure is the norm in 95% of cases- you'll be fine... How much did you blow the limit by ?

LOL quite a bit I go back to the uk through france about 1 a month or so for the past year, stupidy its nearly always the same camera in france that gets me, my sat nay warns me about it too. Its a real sneaky one the speed limit drop no the m-way as you pass over a town, on a corner (no idea what the name of the town is just do as I am told by tomtom) then flash, bugger.

The one by the entrance to the channel tunnel has also got me a couple of times two.

So quite a few flashes in the past year and so far nothing has come through.

Bit of a bump for this one to see if anyone else has any experience of any tickets abroad from fixed cameras.

just done a lengthy european tour and wondering whether the french or swiss might have any presents for me in the next couple of months....

didn't see any flashes - do you always see them or are some of them infra red?

also heard a suggestion that sometimes the swiss stop you at the border the next time you're there asking for unpaid fines. surely not?

thanks

FossilFuelled - you are correct but not until 2007. The DVLA will be contacted directly by the other country for owner details and will issue the fine in the post.

So for the rest of this year they are not going to come after you but next year you will be fair game..

I got flashed by a Swiss Scamera a couple of years ago and heard nothing. But I got stopped in France and fined then about 3 months later they sent me a further demand from the court for more money, so they will follow up if they have the details but not just for fixed camera offences.

The swiss cameras now have RIDICULOUSLY LOW THRESHHOLDS!!!! BE WARNED!!! 3kph over on an 80kph limit and they flash!!!!

The swiss will keep it on record and will be steadily mounting in cost. the next time you enter with the same plate you can be arrested at the border. If it gets too much you'll be declared "persona non grata" without you being informed and if you try to enter it's an immediate prison sentence.......biut only for the really bad 'uns.

Here's the story.......
Had a german customer who had such probs 20 years ago, he parked in Basel and was ticketed with a SFR 20,- ticket. (As usual the parking wardens had ticketed all the foreign cars but no swiss ones!)
So he didn't pay.......... more fool him.....
So after around 4 months where he'd ignored their letters (not enforcebale in Germany) there was a letter to the mayor of the village where he lived. Mayor called him in and said, I've got this letter which I'm not allowed to offficially send to you (as there was no complimentary agreement Germany-Switzerland) but I'd advise you to get something done...the fine had now reached over SFR4000,- with court costs automatic accelerator etc.!!!
He didn't reply so he got an official registered letter 6 months later (around a year after the offence), informing him that he'd be arrested and imprisoned if he tried to enter CH as he had been declared a "persona non grata" and a "criminal on the run" by the swiss authorities. Needless to say he didn't visit Switzerland for a very long time!!!!
But that was 20 years ago, but if you're going to tear the arse out of it in CH they'll oblige by tearing you a second one......!!!!!

The hire firm pays the fine and charges it to your credit card

Ist one good reason to stay in UK . They do hide them in wheely bins und in fancy carvings too - which look every so cutesy decorative too... They did have a Snow White once in the Luzern area. Her boobies flashed. She got more than a apple stuck in her throat after a week or so ..

Their other favourite was a "workman" on motorway too. Und you thought the Swiss were so-OH strait-laced But the threshold ist really equating to 3 mph across all limits from 20 mph up to 80 mph on A/bahn. Prissy Swissy

Und the French They have always hit the French hard und the French do endorse Swiss licences in revenge (I drive UK reg car... und use my married name - I speak French.. they think I have good command for someone with English surname Ist when I speak English they find out.. truth of nationality Not that have been pulled for speeding as see the gendarme very early on und cotton on to unmarked quickly too. )

But ja.. Swiss fine according to income as well. Foreigners usually get the basic fine - but the Swiss are nation of financiers as opposed to cuckoo clock makers und chocolatiers und watch makers und developers of "toppest scientists" ...they accrue the interest.

Ist easiest target. Natives tend not to park in "hot spots" anyway or being prissy Swissy - they overpay the ticket just in case

Und they target French first und every other foreigner second .

But enforceable in France. To credit of the French - they retaliate to the Swiss by returning with more than a Gallic shrug.

I am glad I married the Mad Doc - but that not why married him .. happened to fall big time there. Not embarrassed to say so either. Truly Madly Deeply!
