Hi,

I was going up the A1 through Licolnshire and one of the forward facing cameras flashed.

I'm fairly certain the car in front was too far ahead to have triggered it, yet I was doing an indicated 67mph or so on a dual carriageway at that point and hadn't done more than about 72 for the past mile.

What should I do if I get a letter through?

I've heard you can demmand a calibration certificate and in this case I think it'd be justified as I was definitely under the limit when it flashed and if I had been over it before it was only fractionally.

Also noticed that the miriad of cameras there were painted in the least reflective yellow paint ever seen - can't believe its a coincidence, they really were difficult to pick out in the half light.

Chris.

There is one that has been reduced to 50 mph, it's the one with the 50 mph sign in front of it, I mean right in front of it, no other warning. I believe there used to be some construcion in the area once upon a time. If you get a NIP ask for proof, then check out the signage, hell throw the existing 50 mph sign over the hedge. They play dirty so must you

Went through a camera in brixton - 27 on the speedo, 22 on the Origin, but got flashed.

I dont think the person behind had gone through, and it wasnt the bus in front - sort of hoping it was a car coming the other way..

Will wait and see..

Haha - tempted as I am, it was a one off trip to the [potential] inlaws and I live in Essex, so difficult to examine. But I'm pretty certain this was in a 70mph area and I don't think it was anywhere near the [numerous] 50 zones.

Forward facing GATSO don't(can't?) catch you speeding IIRC? So I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I think the ones on the A1 in Lincs are Truvelo.

Forget it mate. Forward flash is either an error, car in opposite direction, or just set in "shityouupmode"

Nothing to worry about.

It was definetly on my side of the road with the lense facing me, don't think there was anything in the opposite lane at the time.

Will be slightly ironic if after some time being quite dramatically 'economical' with the speed limits on the roads back home, I finally get done for 70.0000000001mph.

Anyone know if Brunstrum's moved to Licolnshire? ....the commute to North Wales wouldn't ake him long at 124 mph

I got a flash on a test drive when clearly within a 30 mph limit - got me worried for a while but nothing ever came of it. Have heard that they fit dummy GATSO flash units sometimes and these respond to cars in both directions unlike the real thing so I can only guess is was that that set it off.

I wouldn't fret as the double photo should corrobarate(sp?) your speed anyway...

The bait was set but no-one took....

Chris71, was the camera that flashed you one of these:

These buggers get you from the front. When the cam flashed were your front wheels on some big white lines painted on the road?

Yes, basically one of those - except painted an especially dull unreflective form of yellow and wihout the blue highlighting!

No lines on the road as far as I can remember.

Wonder if they've got a really wide angle lense or something, because the car in front seemed to have gone past it (marginally quicker than me) when it flashed, but I don't think either of us could have been doing more than about 70.5mph!!

Interesting. I though truvelo cameras were IR based and don't have a flash visible to humans?

In the piccy the flash is the larger circle on the left as you look at it. It is covered with a magenta filter - despite this they are bloody bright ( and no it didn't get me, but the poor bugger on the other side of the road.)

Truvelos do not use IR flash, take it from me - I have seen them flashing (other drivers). Flash bulbs emit little IR and film is relatively insensitive to it too.

The lines look like this:

If there were none then you should have got away with it.

Perhaps it just seemed that way because you were surprised by the flash? Time will tell
