Cloned No. plate on different Make not caught after 6 months, why not ?.
A guy on another list I'm on has had his car off the road for 6 months due to the cloning. The cloned car has been racking up motoring offences .

At present this is quite an easy one to defend as the "clown" has put my number on a silver Merc. and fortunately most offences (parking) are being photographed by the relevant council - but it's bloody annoying having to write in "my" defence every time.
To anyone seeing a silver Mercedes carrying my number around Westminster or Southwark please feel free to crush it with a big truck or steal it or otherwise get it off the road, as it has no registered keeper, no valid tax, MOT or insurance

With all the ANPR stuff around why has this car/driver not been apprehended ? Surely the local BiB would be on the lookout for it ?

Would it be too much to ask the traffic wardens to look out for it and let the police know if they see it? Nah - put another ticket on instead

My wifes car was cloned, found out when plod visited one afternoon. Turn's out DVLA don't have a method of dealing with :wtf: though they can re-register your car for at a cost of £29 eventually, thank you very much

They will write you a nice letter explaining how they are spending millions ensuring number plate suppliers are inspected & how the new ANPR systems have been set up & they make house visits to the registered keepers to stop such crimes

ANPR probably shows it as a fully taxed, insured & MOT'ed Porsche...

I had this same scenario with one of my private registrations.
My plate was on a car at the time, and off road having some bodywork done.
Within a two month period, I received 4 seperate summonses from Glasgow, varying from speeding to parking on zigzag lines. The car had never been to Glasgow.
Each time, I had to spend countless hours sending in my defence.
When it happened a fifth time, I decided to appear in person at court, with all paperwork from the other cases.
Luckily the magistrate was human, and put a rocket up the authorities.
I still don't know if they ever caught the guy.

If you SORN your car, they'll probably catch it in about three days!

Seems to me if you're getting this happening reguarly then I'd just pay the £29 for a re-reg seems cheap to me to avoid any future hassle. I do agree there should be a free and easy way that DVLA should handle this for you once its been confirmed that it has been cloaned.

DVLA must be the most incompetent bunch of civil servants around. If I ever have to have any dealings with them beyond simple RFL, buying, and selling, I will be worried stupid about what they'll do.

As for police/traf wardens...they're supposed to have a central database, aren't they? Is it THAT much trouble to check it BEFORE sending stuff out? Esp. if it's been flagged already.

My brother's car was cloned. Got the first speeding ticket from when he was on holiday in the Dominican Republic. Ended up with five. After convincing the Police it was not his car (very, very difficult), they put a marker on the PNC saying it had been cloned, and that he should always carry ID on him, and although he was never stopped, the driver of the cloned car was actually caught! Never heard what happened to him. Probably an hour's community service.

Vey stressful for him. Most Police force's attitude was 'name the driver' Didn't matter that he was always out of the country when the offences took place

They'll probably catch it and send the OP a fine for using it on the road while SORNed.

What about those people who are almost always IN country when it happens. Cannot believe the government aren't doing anything about this.

Sad but most likely true.
