Is there a rule that says how far apart scameras have to be?

There are roadworks (Ha!) near me on the Pitsea flyover that have three cameras in the space of about 1/2 mile.

If someone speeds through all three (ie...does 45mph constant speed - speed-crazy, lawless nutter that he is - no doubt!), then does he get 9 points?

Surely this would be being charged three times for the same offence?
If someone breaks into your home, and robs three seperate rooms, do they get charged for three counts of burglary?

Who defines how long a single act of 'speeding' lasts?

Is it 50 feet, 200 yards, 1/2 mile?

Why not just put the cameras one after the other, say 20 feet apart? - Then you could take away someones' license (and livliehood, job, etc) much easier.

Just a thought.......

It would be treated as concurrent offenses and only one penalty can result.

If they are Specs, then suggested spacing is (probably) normal...

Nope - not SPECS; normal run-of-the-mill GATSOs.

Well if you can't see 3 bright yellow painted boxes at the side of a road, it brings into question if you can see anything at all.

It should be 3 seperate offences.

Yeah, just like if you go through a specs zone with past 5 camera's it should be 5 offences, or if a car load of bib pull you over then it should be an offence per bib.

Well actually a specs zone would only have 2 sets of cameras, one set at the start, and one set at the end of zone, and usually painted bright yellow, plus all the warning signs.

Sorry, my wrong, that would just be two offences then.

If a car load of bib pulled me over I would be equally amazed, as I would only expect there to be 2 bib in the car, and not 5

Not so. The SPECS system on the M11 recently had several sets, more than two anyhow. I think they put them in at junctions joining on, otherwise people coming into the roadworks part way along would get immunity and could then scream through the danger zone like some sort of suicidist at 50mph and get away scot free!

Can I point you in the direction of Nottingham's ring road (which incidentally isn't a ring road...but hey ho) - there's about 10 set's of camera's on a 2 mile stretch. Not sure how they're paired up, but they do a bloody good job of making you stick to the limit. (Unless you're turning off between two, in which case you can boot it).

Also, what's the craic with "hiding" these cameras behind overgrown trees?

M60 has 4 sets of Specs each way at J21-23 for roadworks.

I'd rather the driver look out for people possibly crossing, motorcyclists, deceptive bends etc rather than be worried about looking for speed cameras - as most drivers caught by speed cameras seem to do - mostly good drivers accident-free...

Assuming that was without irony.

Do you not think that any reasonable justice system should allow a detected miscreant time to reflect upon their behaviour and modify same before the penalty is racked up to higher levels?

For example, under a three counts and you are out system as found in parts of certain colonial countries, should someone who has been found to have previously committed three separate acts of shoplifting, Snickers bars say, should they automatically be sent for life imprisonment?

Rumour has it that new speed cameras will flash five times (at very short intervals) at a speeding vehicle - 4 times to get the 12 points racked up (as time can be split infintely) and the fifth one as the explosive charge goes off...summary execution.

['tis only a rumour I've just started though]

GKP,

that looks like a setup to record both the front and rear of an offending vehicle - the rear for motorbikes plates, the front to aid driver ID.

I know, I posted that ever so slightly tongue in cheek!
