Bwuahahahha. Good.

In other news on that site, the number of people killed or seriously injured is down by an average of 25% at all camera sites. Unfortunately averages mean very little unless you're a statistician.

Claire Wightman said:
Claire Wightman, Communications Manager for DRIVESAFE states; ‘Statistics at that location show that, over a 3 year period, 7 collisions occurred where people involved were either killed or seriously injured & 29 other collisions, where people suffered minor personal injuries. Since the camera has been installed, these figures have been reduced to 1 serious collision & 9 personal injury collisions, proving it has been an effective piece of engineering.

Can you see the subtle wordplay in there?

However, in the Warning to Speeders Page.

Claire Wightman, Communications Manager for DRIVESAFE states; ‘Our aim at DRIVESAFE is simply to reduce the number of needless deaths & injuries on our regions roads, caused by inappropriate speeds

So they acknowledge it is innapropriate speeds...

Mike Downes, Project Manager says; ‘We at the Partnership are delighted with the finished look of the vans. The bright colours & clear signage means that the vehicles are eye catching & easy to spot. We are not & have never been trying to catch the motorists out

But strangely we have the cameras rear mounted so by the time you have seen the scamera van you are already nicked. If that isn't catching you out, what is?

Not vandalising even more cameras puts lives at risk.

Well I was in the Manchester area last week and all the Scameras I saw were 'camouflage' green which is really high-visibilty against a backdrop of foliage.

In that is says X number of accidents over 3 years, but makes no mention of how long the Tax Collector has been there.

You've just reminded me POD that I've still not heard anything back from the ASA compliant I made about Drivesafe's adverts on Key 103 last week - "most needless deaths are caused by speed" and "the only point to speeding is on your licence". The first statement I pointed out was total garbage for a few reasons and the second was wrong because if you speed you get where you are going faster
I'm not holding my breath over the ASA judgement but you never know.

The only reason I complained was that most of the car related complaints on the ASA website were from car haters accusing the companies of glorifying speed by publishing 0-60 times and using "Voom, Voom, Voom" in an advert so I felt some balance was required!

Well yeah, unless I missed it there is no mention of the install date and the when the 3 year duration was. My question would be do the 29 accidents mentioned all include personal injury, it seems to imply that they do but I wouldn't be so sure.

Silly buggers. When are they going to get it through their thick heads that "mindless" vandalism isnt applicable in these cases?
They even go on to admit it was a "well thought out" attack, so, not "mindless" at all then? Arseholes!
The scamera pratnershits dont have a mind either individually or collectively.
These bastards started a war on drivers who are fighting back using, guile, stealth, cunning and superior tactics and overwhelming numbers- the very opposite to "mindless" and this bunch of cum dumpsters cant even stop with their own spin long enough to get their right definitions straight or without contradicting themselves. What chance road safety when these "intellectuals" are in charge? Pull your heads out from your butts you morons!

May the vandalism (both mindless and "well thought out" continue long and hard until these worthless shite suckers are on the dole or stacking shelves at Netto.

Don't sugar the pill DF - tell it liek you see it!

As for the original post...I wonder *which* three year period was taken..I bet you it wasn't a random one!

Also, have traffic levels changed (i.e. do people now use a different road to avoid the camera - nipping through a housing estate instead perhaps)?

And as for the use of the word "statistics". Pah. Call that a statistic?!?

It is SO much like the 'Ministry of Truth' from George Orwell's 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'.

"The production of boots is up to record new highs again." says the Minstry.

Just don't mention that they are all left boots and the production line for right boots is broken down.

Wonder what they would say if you asked them whether they thought Murderers put more lives at risk than speeders? And if they did, why aren't they out looking for all the murderers..........

If nothing else I can see them claiming the camera has had a positive effect when, in fact, it is merely regression to the mean. But then, as observed elswwhere, the official story doesn't bother with such details as cause and effect as long as it looks good in the newspaper.

What proportion of required deaths were caused by speed? Or do they only measure needless deaths?

If the camera's only been in 3 months, things have got alot worse!

Also it doesn't state how many people were killed or injured? Collisions may have gone down (maybe), but people injured have probably gone up,as they don't mention those numbers.
