Watch out in any roadworks (for Gatsos) and across the whole of Wiltshire (for vans on bridges) - roughly Membrey services to Leigh Delamere services.

Also watch out for vans on the approach to the Severn bridge and once you're in Wales its eyes peeled all the time.

I reckon there is a good chance I have been nicked by this camera. Doing a google search bought up this link (from another site) amongst others.

I was on my way to Swansea yesterday and spotted the camera on the bridge, just before the tolls. Must have been doing 70, slowed down to 60 I reckon when I saw it, to be safe.

Been looking all morning to find out the speed limit, and apparantly, despite not recalling any signs, it's an enforced 50 limit.

Looks like I will be donating £60 to the Coppers Christmas Party and adding to the 3 points already on my licence then

Hard luck, you're not alone though, I get angry every time I think about the S.Wales dirty greedy camera partnership. They know exactly which roads to target for maximum revenue and the rather busy M4 happens to be their favourite. They're always at or around the tolls legally robbing Thousands of safe drivers daily. An absolutely sickening sight.

Best advice if possible is never go to S.Wales again. I used to go regularly but have now taken business elsewhere.

Fingers crossed nothing comes through, I could have been lucky but I doubt it.

I was only in South Wales to see my team Wycombe beat Swansea 3-2 but the 3 newspaper boards I saw

"Postie Burns 40,000 Letters"
"Husband Knocks Wife's Teeth Out"
"11 year old girl given ASBO ban from town centre"

You'd have thought they'd have better things to do and serve the community who are their CUSTOMERS

just started working in Swansea and astonished how many speed cameras there are on the M4 - as for the one sitting over the toll approach, that's a bloody licence to print money

They don't give a damn about the community, leagalised scamming is their game and maximising revenue their only interest. If this can be done whilst not rocking the boat too much with the locals then they have more chance of sustaining the operation, hence targetting the M4.

I was going to mention travelling footy supporters are their favourite targets. When there's a big event at the Millenium stadium the chief scammer drools with the expectation of thousands coming from afar who don't know about his M4 traps...and with that he cancels all leave and orders all hands to the deck, overtime with double pay.

They are suitably cowardly to target the very people that bring wealth to the region, in the knowledge that they will be returning to London, Manchester, Newcastle or anywhere, and will not recieve the "thankyou for visiting - please now forward £60" untill two weeks later when they're back home.

I know, they dont care though. If it does come through I'll just have to see if there are any loopholes that I can get out of it with.

Surprisingly I didnt see any more camera vans on the entire M4, surpising given Wales penchant for ripping off motorists, though I did see a few roadworks ones, which I always slow down for as it would be a shame to hit one of those invisible workmen that the cameras are there to protect!!

On the way home I was getting up to around the 90 mark at some points due to the empty motorway and hopefully no cameras on the bridges at midnight and there were still drivers zooming past me that must have been doing 120 plus.

Having said that I saw one of the worst abuses of Speed Enforcement at 11pm on an empty road in High Wycombe where a copper was standing in the pitch black at the side of the road with a speed gun hoping to earn a bonus.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for enforcement near schools at chucking out time, through quiet resdential areas where kids play, and along dagerous winding single track roads (where the speed limit is a suicidal 60MPH - you'd have to be stupid to do anything near that) but I resnt stupid, pathetic speed limits which are just desgined to rip people off and annoy motorists.

If they want to do something to improve safety, they should take a look at the many kids etc you see hanging over motorway bridges aliong that stretch of motorway. There's nothing more unnerving than thinking they are going to chuck something off, especially with some of the stories I've heard in the past about paving slabs coming off bridges and hitting drivers. You wouldnt stand a chance if one of those hit you

Been on their forums before, very helpful, but unable to help me with a speeding ticket from a van that has caused a lot of controvosy and criticism in our local press. Basically it sits just within a 40mph limit and zaps people in the 30 limit speeding up as they see the signs, rather than waiting till they have passed them. Another nice earner for the authorities. Spoilt my unblemished 9 years with a clean licence. No get out clause despite them getting a place name in my address wrong.

Forums were down this afternoon, will check back later

Edit: Working now, lots about this rip off on there

Have you seen the ones on the A483 (Carmarthen Road) yet? Mostly DC along its ~7-8 mile length and the speed limit varies from 30mph to 60mph numerous times. So many cameras along this stretch you could lose your licence several times over on just one trip from the M4 into the city centre.

the talivans were out again on sunday!!

I was taking my son to football sunday morning so decided to use the motorway M4 Jct16 to Jct 15 as I didnt want to go through Swindon, so trundling along at an indicated 85 in lane 1, saab overtakes me in lane 2 a little bit faster, everyone is quite happily going about their business as the traffic is light. So who should be out on one of the bridges, yes the B'stards in their little vans!!

The saab pulled into lane 1 infront of me and slowed as did i, but not sure if we got pinged at all. I checked on my satnav today and an indicated 85 is an actual 78 so its right there on the limit.

As usual a normal event where noone was killed, injured or even slightly aggrieved has turned into a waiting for the dreaded NIP to arrive.
Maybe worrying about nothing but thats what these things do to your normal everyday driver...

its great isnt it, we spend more time worrying about whether we have strayed over the limit than observing the road.

Just make sure you keep an eye on the M40 at J5 (Stokenchurch) then.

The cameras on the approach to and from the cutting are getting particularly bad at the moment. The Van controlling the tripods is actually hidden behind the hedgerows behind the slip road. They had a couple of motorway vehicles on the other side of the bridge which are difficult to see as you're coming up the hill.

Pity those waiting policemen are very rarely about when the local youth are vandalising cars in the area.

rage
This has become standard practice on the Wiltshire section of the M4 at weekends. Traffic is light and there is far more opportunity for income. Funny that you never see them around during the rush hour when traffic is heavy and therefore potentially more dangerous - it wouldn't be anything to do with it not being as financially rewarding, would it? rolleyes

They were especially sneaky a fortnight ago when one was parked up on Grittenham bridge, one of their favourite places midway between J16 and J17. Having satisfied myself that I then new where the barsteward was that morning, I proceeded east spending more time concentrating on road conditions than looking out for white vans on bridges. At Wroughton, just before J15, there was a second one rage

If you were in the inside lane, you might just be lucky - I was in the inside lane approaching J15, and the NIP ought to have come this morning if it was to be deemed good service

Are you certain? Thames Valley have a no cameras on motorways policy...

...although they are keen on introducing them after Wiltshire's "success"

I'm 100% certain. Not only are they mobile but they're not placed in the vans so aren't exactly that visible.

I live in Stokenchurch and was coming off the motorway last Monday to see the lovely van sat behind the trees and the cameras setup. I've also heard from colleagues at work that they use the same setup at J2 (Beaconsfield).

TBH that sounds more like an ANPR set up if there are chase vehicles.
