Hi All,

I have been parking on Wood Street, Manchester, for the last month or so. The street has double yellow lines, which are all legal in their construction - but due to redevelopment on one side of the street it is possible to get a car clearly INSIDE the double yellows (inbetween them and a temporary barrier).

I thought this was brilliant - as you can't park on the lines or the street, and by definiton (I hope) the lines delineate the edges of the street, so by getting inside them makes you the aforementoned Robin Hood of parking.

Unfortunately, the evil Sheriff of Manchester and his cronies have decided that, after a month, enough is enough and have started offering a reward for myself, dead or alive, or alternatively demanding that I pay £30 in 14 days to the Sheriff's kitty.

As a proponent of creative parking, I am asking for a legal view on this issue...

True... but I don't give up that easily and the score over the last three days has been Sheriff 3, Robin Hood 0. Not even with my treehouse full of gold can I maintain these losses tomorrow...

Under Traffic Signs and General Directions 2002 Diagram 1018 shows DYL and describes that they indicate that "Waiting AT THE SIDE OF A LENGTH OF ROAD is prohibited as is stopping in a Lay By other than in an emergency.

"Road" under TSGD is not defined but is so in the parent Act giving authority to TSGD - Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

"Road" - ANY length of highway or of any other road to which the public have access and includes bridges over which a road passes.

Presumably Joe Public can get access between the actual edge of the carriageway itself and the barriers to the road edge if so then IMHO there is the argument that Mancashester have the authority to issue the PCN's
