Sensible outcome ?
Discussion
Just got of the phone to a mate of mine. Got stopped on the M1 at 109mph a while back. He chose to fill in all the relevant forms and back them up with bank statements etc, but not appear in court. He was then requested to attend today in person.
He knew he'd been pinged as soon as he saw the copper on his perch, so made his way to the hard shoulder and awaited his arrival. Told him the circumstances of why he was speeding. In this case, his girlfriends ex husband had phoned her and had threatened to come round, so he wanted to get there quick. Explained to the cop that he knew it was an offence, and he expected to be punished, happily went round his car (Beemer 5 series) with the copper to have a look at tyres etc. Had a nice chat with him, and went on his way.
Had he lost his licence it would have affected his business and ability to look after his son (single parent), he explained this with evidence to that effect.
He fully expected a ban, and was quite pragmatic about it. He denies driving dangerously, and was in a well maintained capable vehicle, something that the copper mentioned when he stopped him.
The result?
6 points and £100 fine.
He's happy, but cannot stop himself comparing his "crime" to the recent outcome of a violent case locally, where the offender received a lesser fine.
I post this only as information for others who may find themselves "ton up" and nabbed.

His plea of 'hardship' worked.......only this time.

Genuine plea though, I don't think he intends making use of it again. He was surprised they didn't fine him more. Perhaps they could see that he really is the honest hard working bloke that he told them he was
