Hmm.
Not sure it makes me feel any more secure to know that ARV's are used as taxi's for DD suspects - or anyone else for that matter.
Not very smart to leave the devices lying around anyway - I could just imagine some lunatic tasering a driver whilst in the move.
Also not very smart of the (presumably) passenger to take them though I guess it depends on whether he was still inebriated at the time.
Any betting on the outcome?
Scrote gets slapped wrist and BiB sent back to the beat as community officers in a remote village?

Poor sods, probably completely knackered/stressed whatever. Still, the IPCC have been informed, so that's okay...

That's a bit unfair and biased. I mean being completely knackered and stressed or whatever is no excuse really. I'm afraid the police will be picked up on every little mistake in the present climate of do-gooderness and nannyism.

i think this runs back to the "speed enforcement and general attitude to police" thread. you think the public cares less if an individual bib has the book thrown at him (rightly or wrongly) when they just had a speed camera parasite NIP land on their doorstep?
The issue is not the driving of a drunk person home but allowing the firearms to be unsecured.
Even more so i feel that the fact the person was allowed to climb into the footwell of the vehicle.
There are strict protocols when dealing with firearms, and as much as i hate to admit this, tiredness should not be an excuse for unsecuring the weapons.
However, a scarey thought is the fact how easy it is to access the locations of the weapons when stowed!

And would the same be true of poor, tired Mr Farmer who's worked a 12 hour day and forgot to lock his gun cabinet . . . scroats nick his guns and plod would say "Oh well, he was tired . . ." I think not Mr Wheels.
One law for one . . . and all that, if there's not one law there is no law. Plod and all are subject to the same rules.
