Not sure if this is the correct forum but everyone seems to get their rants off their chest in here so now its my turn.

I noticed my tax disc had expired on the 31/7/06 so in a blind panic having been driving for a month without tax I rush to the post office where they inform me that their computer recons the tax is valid!. I was wondering why I hadn't had a reminder through the post so I go home to check.

They have only gone and issued me with 12 months road tax on a 6 month ticket. So now (unless I can sort this out somehow) I will be driving around for 6 months with a tax disc that says it expired on the 31/7/06 but actually doesn't expire for another 5 months!. Should be fun if I get pulled by the police.

Going to call the DVLA to see what they can do about it...

Apply for a replacement tax disc and see what they send you

Think you might get stung for a "failure to display" if you're unlucky.
Replacement disc is the way forward... and a strong argument not to pay for the privelege!

No way im paying for their mistake robbing #####. Ive had enough of the DVLA after they failed to send me a reminder on my other car and I had to pay a fine as I hadn't declared it SORN.

How much tax did you pay for initially - have you any receipt / statement proving it?

£170 (Bought the car with 12 months tax on it) its got it printed onto the disc so theres no mistake.

All they want is a letter from me explaining their mistake and a photocopy of the tax disc showing the 12 months and the expired 6 month disc.

Wonder what they will then do.
