I've heard about how bad France is. Just driven all the way to Spain & back ; Cameras seen, none. Speed traps, one. A few signs here and there.
It's still far better than here, I went to France in may/june saw a few fixed cameras (all well signed in advance) and one Gendarme with a 'hairdryer' in about 2,000 miles.
I did get caught there a few years back @ 200+kmh on the autoroute and got a large fine
, didn't have enough currency so was escorted to a bank to get some (hey at least while they were with me no-one else was getting scammed)
and I did get a demand from the court (by post) for some more money a few months later (which I duly 'filed'
) but I don't expect they'll bother if you weren't stopped - not worth the hassle.
I drove from Spain to Germany last week.
We had about 4 traps on our side and the same on the other side in France, one of which my wife was caught on.
We were doing 140 odd kph on our clock in a 130 limit and French cars were flying past us and the speed trap. Sadly us and a Luxembourg car were singled out and pulled over. We were accused of travelling at 166kph and fined 90 euros.
I had a lucky escape later in the day when I braked for a speed trap just short of Luxembourg. People were being pulled over by the police at the peage some 30 miles later.
This together with an altercation with French Police at the Dunkerque port means I totally hate France and will try not to ever return there. In fact the Gendarmes kindly stamped my passport saying I am never welcome in the land of garlic and homosexuality ever again and to kindly drive through the tunnel to Belgium next time I want to enter Europe.
Sadly, I am unaware of this new tunnel, could anyone shed light on it for me?
Cheers
Paul

Ah the good old days!
In July, A31 heading north, Cruise set at 160kph, curlers set on medium, Le plod with le flic and le moto, relieved me of 90 francs for 165kph (nearly argued... but thankfully held my tongue) Anyway, after a chat with him, he told me >179kph and it's licence confiscation time... and being a lone driver... car confiscation until a licenced driver turned up.
That said, 105mph for 62 quid and no points isn't too bad. Don't they hang you in the U.K. for that?

The AP and UPI reported that the French Government announced after the London bombings that it has raised its terror alert level from Run to Hide.
The only two higher levels in France are Surrender and Collaborate. The rise in the alert level was precipitated by a recent fire which destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively disabling their military.

French Ban Fireworks at Euro Disney
(AP), Paris , March 5, 2003
The French Government announced today that it is imposing a ban on the use of fireworks at Euro Disney. The decision comes the day after a nightly fireworks display at the park, located just 30 miles outside of Paris, caused the soldiers at a nearby French Army garrison to surrender to a group of Czech tourists
