Them there signs, can any of them snap you at all? Drove past one tonight, about 40 in a 30, and I swear it blinked a small flash at me. The sign alternated between 30 and a camera symbol.

There's quite a few around here but I've never seen one that flashes a camera symbol. Perhaps it was programmed to include a small flash to make you worry and encourage compliance? Obviously there wasn't a 'watchman' there too? If there was make sure you wear your stockings when you go back with a match .

As far as I know, these signs have an 'emoticon menu' of symbols to display. The LED's are the four-pin 16 million colour type and getting them to flash white and then morph into a camera symbol is probably in the setup menu. My favourite is near Kenilworth, Warks and morphs into a smiley or a frownie depending on your speed.
These are purely passive and I have heard nothing of them getting any 'sinister' additions to their purpose.

The Tesco store next to the Reebok Stadium, outside Bolton has one, simply telling you to slow down.

I do enjoy annoying it.

Its the second one in the Bury area that I've seen that have a camera symbol as well as the speed warning.

I did look in my mirror as I drove away from it, it didn't look big enough to contain any sort of camera, it was a reasonably thin oblong box on 2 poles.

I prefer the ones that give you your actual speed. Great for checking if the speedo is reasonably accurate.
Also room for a bit of fun as well
