Please can someone tell me if the chequared 4x4s with Traffic Officer on the doors are police or just highways "help".

If the 4x4 says 'Traffic officer' or Highways Agency' it is not the police.

They're Highways Agency and there entire remit is far as I can tell is 'standing in a line up the hard shoulder impersonating the police'

Is it for recruitment perhaps? A double cab commercial vehicle may not have the same kudos no matter how practical it might really be.

I saw one of these the other day on the M1 that advertised that it contained a "safety camera" or something. any thoughts on this?

You sure that wasn't one of the VOSA ones, normally galaxy's out to get you for no Tax, Insurance and Mot, and quite rightly so

no definately not. it was a mondeo estate or something. It said motorway patrol (same markings and words as the rest of the 4x4's you see. Just written on the window that it contained a safety camera or words to that effect
