Think it may be earlier, maybe 72 or even 71?
My brother fitted them to his 74 mini cooper replica and was stopped by the local BiB - was given a producer and had to re-test the car! Totally over the top but needless to say he fitted the correct plates for the re-test and then produced his documents.
I have seen vehilcles built after the date with black and silver plates that are contavening the law but who seem to get away with it...at the end of the day it hardly seems like a serious crime to me but they can catch you for and its a crime spotted, solved, etc...
Vehicles constructed before 1.1.1973 may display traditional style “black and white”
plates i.e. white, silver or grey characters on a black plate. All vehicles manufactured after 1.1.1973 must display number plates of reflex-reflecting material, white at the front and yellow at the rear, the characters must be black.
Further regulations relating to font, form and character of letters for number plates purchased from 1.9.2001 which is different from requirements for number plates fitted before 1.9.2001
I never understand why people do things for purely aesthetic reasons which deliberately place themselves in position of being under greater scrutiny from plod.
What I mean is that if you want to find something nickable tis just a matter of looking for long enough.
