Police have changed my ticket. What can I do?
Discussion
Hi I got stopped for speeding a few weeks back I was given my NIP at the scene & told I would have to go to court (that's fine)
Two days ago my summons arrived to attend court on 02/10/06. When I was stopped the officer said I was travelling between 102 - 120mph but he would only do me for my lower speed 102mph.
I have the copy of the stop sheet and it says 102 - 102 mph for 2 miles I also got a copy of the officers sheet and he has changed it from 102mph to 110mph so it now reads 102 - 110mph for 2 miles also his statement to the judge says 102 - 110mph,
So where do I stand?
will I get done for 102mph as this is what i signed for at the scene or will i get done for 110mph?
Is the officer allowed to change the speed on his own or would I have to sign it again?
I can't really afford a solicitor as I'm not on a fantastic wage,
What sort of charge will I get?
I have a clean licence
time of offence - 04:50am
Road - M6/ not to much traffic
Weather - Bright & sunny (yes it was June)
My Copy
Officers Copy
Statement
Thanks for any help,
Billy

Looks like someone made a dog's breakfast of the ticket.
At that time and at such a low speed I'd like to think you'd have grounds to walk away on the basis of "ticket excused as copper can't write properly so probably can't read speedos or judge speed either".
Disclaimer
Not getting at our BiB brethren generally, definitely not PH BiB, just this specimen.
Peace love and chill etc

presumably yours is a carbon copy?
He cant just make alterations like that, esp adding Lanes 1,2&3! he is trying to pin dangerous driving on you as well by the looks of it.
I would argue the point and say that the officer obviously didnt have accurate information etc and see how you get on.
Do you know what speed you were doing? Are you gonna contest or sit back and take the slap on the wrist?

Looks to me like he's falsifying evidence - surely that's frowned upon. Get yourself a lawyer.
What sort of price would it be to get a lawyer as I'm not flush at the moment what with hols etc.
Pics of statment hope you can read them.

I know its not relevant as it was "in the line of carrying out duties" but how did he see a vehicle ahead travelling in excess of the limit. If it or he had not just joined the carriageway (not on statement) he must also have been exceeding the speed limit (by more than you) in order to catch up with you (not knowing your are there).
On another note (after edit).
Surely this could be construed as PCJ or at least providing falsified documentation.

Hmm, something fishy. In your original post you say he told you he'd clocked you at 102-120 but then he'd only put down 102 as that was the lowest figure. But then he wrote down a range ie 102-102, why not just 102
. Are you sure you didn't imagine the bit where he said he'd only put down 102 and there isn't a possibility that he got the 0 and the 2 transposed in the upper range
On realising his mistake he realised that he couldn't just change it to 102-120 as you would definitely question that so he went for a compromise, 102-110.

yeah - surely by law he cannot alter his copy of the ticket? if he wrote 102mph - even by accident, and did not correct the mistake at the roadside, then he is at fault.
There is nothing to stop an officer altering his ticket or statement because of a mistake on his portion of the ticket, even after he has handed you your copy. As long as he is upfront about the alteration that is fine. He only has problems if he denies or tries to hide it.

At whatever time at that speed you should count yourself lucky if you were to get a FPN.

Then precisely what is the point in getting the victim to sign it, if you can write down any old bollox once you get back to the station?

The signature on the ticket isn't a validation of everything that is on the ticket.
The thing that the person issued the ticket has signed against, is in relation to what he said "I've no excuse".
The speed & over what distance are part of the officer's evidence.
If for example he put the wrong the road down, he can change it to the correct one & a summons could be issued with the correct road. It doesn't make it all invalid.

parish of sproston
did you pass him? obviously you got nicked somewhere around junc 18 - holmes chapel
at 102 - 120 and to follow you for 2 miles in a range rover you must have, the nearest junc is 19 which is 8 miles north and you have seen them sat on the bridge
just curious if they were blasting along at 102 – 120 cleaning out the injectors and came across you and thought ooh there's an easy target we'll have him
after all they only usually patrol at about 55 mph
