Is your keyboard faulty ?

Seems to be stuck on CAPS, and would be seen as being impolite.

HI,A MATE OF MINE WAS REPORTED FOR RUNNING A RED LIGHT AT A TRAFFIC ISLAND. HE STATES THAT WHEN HE WAS UPON THE LIGHTS THEY WERE ON AMBER SO HE PRECEEDED AND THAT HE WAS DRIVING WITHIN THE SPEED LIMIT. A FEW HUNDRED YARDS UP THE ROAD HE WAS PULLED OVER BY A LONE POLICEMAN WHO SAID HE HAD SEEN HIM GO THROUGH A RED LIGHT.MY MATE HAD PASSED THE POLICE CAR WHICH WAS WAITING TO JOIN THE ISLAND AT THE NEXT ENTRANCE, SO THE COPPERS VIEW TO HIS RIGHT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN VERY CLEAR TO THE LIGHTS IN THE FIRST PLACE, BUT THE COPPER SAID HE SAW THE SECONDARY LIGHTS ON RED. MY MATE IS ADAMANT THAT HE IS NOT IN THE WRONG AND HAS ALREADY APPEARED IN MAGISTRATES COURT AND HAS DECIDED TO TAKE HIS CHANCES AT TRIAL.UNTIL NOW HE HASN'T HAD A SOLICITOR, BUT SURELY THIS IS A CASE OF THE POLICEMANS WORD AGAINST HIS?

Tell your pal to go back und take some photos und other video showing sequence. If they can show video evidence against.. then so can you in defence

Go und post to the pepipoo site - a google for both this und Roadweb should take you there Liebchen.. or do archive search on both this und Paulie safespeed's site .. You get there

Also .. go to main town public library und CAB. Look und ask for any free consults or drop-in Law Centres or google for Motoring Lawyers .. even (you get a free phone contact number there )

Get your friend to look hard at these. He need the help.

Sorry, no offence intended,do excuse my typing skills won't you.As i'm concerned about a friend, positive comments and replies on the issue that i've raised would be greatly appreciated. In the mean time please keep your sarcasm to yourself. CHEERS.

Then excuse my rather silly English. (have always had problems with three words - have no explanation.. but .. no matter. No one perfect )

As said.. go back.. take still und video evidence. They use it. Your pal can also use it then

Take the still und moving traffic evidence. Vary times to show up normal traffic behaviour.

Go to pepipoo, google for motoring lawyers (free advice) .. go to CAN und libraries. Get all free takes. Employ the best of these to argue.

It's your word verses his. The court will listen to the facts as given by both sides & then give a verdict.

It's beyond all reasonable doubt, civil law is on the balance of probability.

Hmm, why not go back to where the plod car was, and see what sort of visibility there is in respect of the lights..... If they are good, your friend is screwed. If they are bad, then it is relatively easy to put to the court that the officer couldn't have seen the lights from where he was.. I would also take a few photos, ideally at the same time of day/conditions that your friend was in. Oh, and take a few when it is both a lot lighter and a lot darker if possible. I assume at this point there are no traffic light cameras?

But presumably if he was travelling at the speed limit and near the light when it went to amber it is safer to continue than effect an emergency stop?

That's what my mate said, rather than risk being shunted or skidding, he carried on.

Amber gambler.

If you are approaching a green set of lights they can only change adversely for you. You should approach them with the mindset that they will & be planning to safely stop.

If you approach without such a mindset & planning, then you may get caught out by the change & where your typical response is gun it in teh hope you'll get through, sometimes you are going to be unlucky.

But, you are entitled to travel at the speed limit. So, presumably, there will come a point wherein it will be too late to stop safely?

AMBER means 'Stop' at the stopline. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident.

If you don't plan your approach & just leave everything to chance, then you are going to inevitably find yourself running a red at some stage or have an increased risk of getting stuffed from the rear in trying to avoid running the red.

People who's instinct, more often than not. is to go for the accelerator on seeing the light change, run a risk of getting caught out.

The Australian traffic light system works well - don't know why they don't implement it over here. As you approach lights on busy/dangerous junctions, a couple of hundred yards before the junction a sign will flash up to let you know the lights will change before you get there if you carry on at present speed.

They are sticklers for speed limits though and no one speeds, so not sure what happens if you gun it!

Depends on the speed limit in relation to the given amber time. IIRC the amber time is usually 3 seconds. This in a 30 limit should give enough time to a driver to enable reasonable judgment of the situation and stop comfortably if necessary.

Such lights on a DC would be a bit more tricky. Is the amber phase still 3 seconds?
