On another forum ,these guys are having problems moving there aircraft from Gloucester airport to Bruntingthorpe due to the Bib

........but keep hitting the brick wall when it comes to the local Police for the over sized transport order & escort.
So far, we have had 4 failed move attempts, one with less than twenty four hours to go, due to the various reason which have never been explained, these 4 attempts have cost money and with the proposed daily charges of £143, it would not be long before we are forced to fold the Society through a lack of funds.

Is there anything the society can do apart from keep waiting ?
(the £143 daily charge is the rent they will have to start paying in a few days because the aircraft has not been removed)

I haven't seen BiB escorting anything for months - seems to be mostly private escort vehicles or HATO.

Being military jet I presume that Bib are required in case some terrorists try to hijack the load and fly it into a government building ...

Under normal circumstances such load movements have to be notified 48 hours in advance to Police and if exception special authorisation has to be obtained from Ministry. Police can then assess problems/resourses in movement and delay until suitable. On certian weights LA also have to be informed in case any bridges are crossed and indemnity given in case of any damage caused.

Has anyone spoken to the Police (not the front offfice civilian) to discuss the problem and costs which are occuring? If not I suggest they do so.

we get quite a lot of wide loads in these parts, almost always large boats.
my mate is a traffic plod, and she said the escorts are usually on rest days and its treated like overtime as they can't spare the manpower off a normal shift.
they also have to get the electricity people, BT people and quite often the street light people involved....so perhaps its not all down to the police cancelling all the time.

why is it now, that instead of 'wide load' , you always get the big sign saying 'convoy exceptionel'..... is it part of our crazy new euro culture to have warning signs on outsize loads in french only now?

I may be wrong, but..............

I dont think it is necessary to have "Wide Load" on the front of an AIL in this country, but it is a legal requirement in France. Hence the guys who move boats and mobile homes over the water have the sign permanently affixed to the front.

AIL - Abnormal Indivisible Load

We have Traffic Management Officers who usually deal with such issues. See if your local force Roads Policing Unit has such people, they would usually be the ones to help.

You could try contacting the RHA or the FTA. I assume you are a registered charity so they may be willing to help on a freebie basis.

I used to work for a mobile home manufacturer. They make half width homes of up t 12 feet and need to be escorted. Biggest problem was having to change police escorts on the county borders.

I rather like the Finnish idea to standardise on Latin as the EU language to reduce translation costs.

...indeed we could standardise on Finnish in honour of them having the idea.
