WATCH THIS, AND TELL ME YOU'D STILL DO MY JOB
Discussion
Have a little look at the video clip, from the excellent Coppersblog site, and tell me you still think the BiB are a waste of time/money/space.
The video is under the banner "Three Percent Anyone".

Atrocious.
A point is missed though - for me anyway - in the fact that it's not front line BiB that PH MoPs complain about most of the time. Most of the time we know how difficult front line BiB life is, we see it too on our own streets.
It's the higher ranks we complain about, the political animals not the coppers, those who buy into a political ideology for any reason, from shared politics to seeking preferment and a gong or whatever. It's also the politicians themselves.

Stunned.
I actually saw this on my detectives course and forgot how savage it was.
I think the two lads are a shinning example of how professional they were as they remained composed.
Also seeing them back each other up when most people would have run away.
Shame on the people who stood and watched and then walked away before back up arrived.
I have been assaulted 15 times in 14 years.
Spat on, kicked, punched, bitten, stabbed with a needle, a gun pointed in my face and my partner grabbed the gun which caused the magazine to fall out, driven at and an attempt to strangle me that burst blood vessels in my eyes.
The guy who strangled me was fined £200 (I CS'd him)
The guy who tried to shoot me got 7 years and was out in 4. He is now back in for armed robbery
All the rest had the charges dropped during plea bargins.
We are not getting 3% this year. 2.4 has been offered.

Point noted
My gripe has never been with the foot soldiers, but with those in senior office who set the policy.
Some years ago I was mugged – the police did nothing about it – although I was offered counselling …..
My place was burgled – the police sent SOCO round and there the matter rested. Nothing else happened.
A gang of kids from the school my ex-missus used to teach in came round and started harassing her – the police wouldn’t even send a car round to show a presence, even though I told them they were 100 yards down the road.
Last year I wanted to report a case of criminal damage. The crime desk I was put through to was an fu
ng answerphone. When I went to the Nick in person to make my views known I was told: “ring tomorrow and we’ll give you a crime number.”
Of course, should I happen to be spotted doing a few miles an hour over a speed limit (which is probably stupidly low in the first place), I’m nicked as a criminal reprobate. (I haven’t, by the way, but it doesn’t stop my blood boiling about the way laws in this country are selectively enforced.
Whist senior management in the police service think that this is an acceptable way of policing, then it is little surprise that the foot soldiers are losing the support and respect of those very members of the public that they should be able to rely on.
PS - BiB on here – please forward this rant to your Chief Constable!!

Bloody hell that's pretty rough. However proud I am that the standard british bobby doesn't carry a gun, there are times when the deterrent value of such an arm really is needed. As you say, the people wandering by who do sod all, very depressing. Hope that some of the scrotes were identified and prosecuted.

Hmmm, and get in bother? Don't think so.
Yes, I'm a public servant, but I still have a mortgage and bills to pay.
If one pops one's head too far above the parapet, one does rather tend to catch some lead...
I for one have been for a "meeting without coffee" with the Divisional Commander for comments and opinions I posted on here. Others have too, and there are several Police bloggers who have had to stop blogging on threat of severe disciplinary action (and they were very accurate blogs on polcing today).

Suddenly, FunkyNige's post about getting beaten up and being able to retire at 50 has disappeared...
If PH had a 'disappear into the sunset' button instead of just 'delete' I would've used that, unfortunatly it doesn't so I suddenly deleted it.
Now watch me suddenly press submit.
FunkyNige,
I will be 48 when I retire on a full pension. I intend to go work in the private sector after that and earn a fortune using the skills I got in Plod land.
I will have been in public service since I was 16.
Don't think it's fair though to think getting beat up like those boys did is as trivial as you seem to think.
Am I picking you up wrong?

OK, I may get flamed/banned for this, but I'm sure many people feel the same, just are too scared to post -
Hundreds of people get beaten up like that every weekend in the town and city centres in the UK when they're just going about their night out trying to enjoy themselves not wanting into any trouble. Now because it happenned to police officers who are being paid to be there I'm suddenly supposed to be all sympathetic and call for pay rises? Yes, being beaten by a group of thugs is not an ordeal that is trivial and should not be tolerated as par for the course in any job, but surely the officers knew it was a risk when they joined?
The jab at pensions was a bit of a cheap shot saying being a police offcier is not a badly paid job as is often made out since you can join at 18 for £20k, then retire at 50 on a full final-salary pension. If you add up what most people will earn in this period, who don't get a full pension at the age of 50, then being a police offcier is a very well paid job indeed.

Thanks for clearing that up.
On pay. I earn 32g a year I am on my top line. I get 24 days holiday a tear and work shifts 7 on 2 off. I can get called out anytime because I am CID and go to court when I am night shift and should be in my bed.
I don't get mega overtime as some people believe.
Its my choice to be a plod I accept that and I love my job. I try to deal with everyone so that they are left thing. "He was a good cop wish there was more like him"
Funny thing about knowing the risks about getting beat up and well they get paid for it anyway.
You are right Joe public should not be assaulted. Its wrong and the people who do it should get banged up but hey Joe public was out drinking on a Friday night in the Town centre and knew the risks of getting assaulted by some clown so eh tuff.
See how silly that sounds.
One example on the pay front by the way...........
Joiners, plumbers, sparks, teachers, driving instructors, med reps, pharmacists to name a few all earn more than me.
Firemen don't which is damn disgrace by the way.
