I'm a Class 2 HGV driver for a High-Street DIY store. We deliver kitchens, bedrooms, conservatories etc to the good people of the UK. Because most people don't conveniently live on the hard-shoulder of the motorway, I find myself having to drive an 18 tonne lorry just about anywhere - tight urban streets and twisty country lanes.

This means I often come across the old "Not Suitable For HGVs" signs and I was wondering about the legal implications of these signs. So far, roads that I've had to go down which were deemed "unsuitable" haven't proved to be a problem, but there's always the risk that one day I'll come a cropper.

So, do these signs mean:

a) No HGVs allowed

or

b) It's up to you mate, but if it all goes Pete Tong, don't say we didn't warn you.

A cursory google suggested that these signs were intended to discourage use of these roads by HGVs, rather than actually prohibiting it.

So, if I went down one of these unsuitable roads and got stuck, would I be in trouble?

It's an information sign.

If you go there & block it, could count towards a without due care/inconsiderate driving.

Right. Thank you.
