Road Sign question.

There is an old road sign near me with a red disc on the pole.


Always wondered what it is.


Any ideas?

If it's the one I'm thinking of it will be denoting the edge of carriageway or an obstruction near that edge.

If its well into the verge and adjacent to a field then it could be a marker for guys in the Cessna Ag-wagons when spraying.

Could be an underground high pressure gas or oil pipeline - the red disks allow it to be surveyed and photographed (normal and infrared film) - any leak shows up in a change in the crops above it.
