new powers to stop green laning
Discussion
This is probably one for the Trail Riding Federation, but I am interested to see if there is a PH'er perspective.
I read a very brief article in the press about "The Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006", saying it gives new powers to stop people riding/driving on footpaths and bridleways. I've no problem with current classifications being enforced but am concerned if it also involves reclassifiying routes currently legal for 4x4s and bikes. Does anybody know?
Thanks.

Yep It's a pain in the bum
You can no longer drive on a footpath, bridalway, road used as a public path (RUPP) or a right of way with a dual use. For example a UCR may also be a bridleway and therefore cannot be driven.
This now limits you to byeways open to all traffic (BOAT) or a UCR or private land.
Where a right is ambiguous then it can not currently be driven but an appeal can be put in for a definitive clarification if historic vehicluar rights can be shown. The current backlog is about 2 years worth.
