Seems like most of the posts on this forum are fairly negative about the police (or plod as I like to call them) so thought I'd balance it out a bit.

Yesterday got pulled over by plod in an unmarked car on the A40 sliproad at Shepherd's Bush. Apparently I was doing 67 in the 50 zone. It was 'a fair cop' so I was totally polite and apologetic. I drive a new Porsche and the guy was obviously a fellow petrolhead so we ended up having a 15min chat about performance cars (he asked whether he could sit in the car, etc). Apparently he's had their chase 5 series up to 140mph on the M1 during testing.. good effort.

In the end the guy just asked me to keep it sensible in the future and let me go. Being a tosser to plod just guarantees you getting a fine. Try being a gentleman about it (they are just doing their job) and you might be lucky.

Top bloke whoever you were. thumbup

Long time back I was trying out a spell in the traffic dept. We were on a quiet stretch of road at 0600hrs and set a speed trap. I stopped a female doing 49 in a 30. Turned out she was a nurse just off nightshift from the local A&E. Word of advise in her ear and off she went quite happy. The bib I was working with had on the other side of the road just reported a female for doing 39 in a 30. Turned out she was a bib going to start early shift and was running late. She got 3 points and a £20 fine (its was before the fines went up) and councilled by her bib boss re her driving and done for being late for work. I got reported to my boss and returned to unit for neglect of duty.

HE smiled when he fired the female cop in and smiled when he fired me in so I guess he was a nice guy at the end of the day.

He went up the ranks over the years.......Funny that. Ah well at least he was a good guy.

Ashley, most of the complaints are about Scameras and Talivans. I have no objection to trafpol at all (even on the very few occasions I have gotten a bollocking off one !).

I fear monkeyhanger was being facetious.

Nice post. As Paul says though, most 'moaning' posts here are about the scameras and co, I think most BiB (excluding the Rats ) are pretty understanding of a bit of spirited driving, in certain circumstances....

..... well, true, of course. But the number Scameras and Talivans who will be understanding, is , of course, zero. I would reckon 95% of trafpol would only intervene (i) if you are waaaaay over the limit and (ii) if the driver is being an idiot in other ways.

laugh You'd be amazed just how few Plod are into cars at all. Most couldn't tell you the difference between a Ferrari and a Lada. Certainly on my team there's only two lads who could be described as Petrolheads. One posts on PH, though not as Plod and never on this Forum....

Fair do's, I would agree with the 95%, trouble is the other 5%
