I thought that mobile camera vans had to be marked up as such? Came across a beautiful Vauxhall high roof panel van on the A47 this weekend. Complete with spare wheel hung on the back door. Plain white, only the two open windows in the top of the rear doors gave away its true identity.

I don't mind them enforcing limits but that's just plain sneaky.

That reads you number plate. Checks PNC and local database for any markers. For example no insurance, told dvla no ,longer keeper, stolen vehicle, If you then tavel down the road you would have seen some marked or un-marked vehicles hidden up who would be the intercept team. The primary function of these units is against just the sort of people you'd want the police to target.

No as then the people who its targetting would see it before they get scanned. It has no speed measuring capability.

Two small windows on the back, that'll be ANPR then,

A while back where I live the local police bought themselves 2 knackered old Espaces both at least 6+ years old, one in dark purple the other in green IIRC. Kitted them out with blacked out windows and cameras then used as camera vans. Slide side door open, park in appropriate spot. Very hard to see due to the colours and always hidden very carefully ! Havent seen them for a while, now they have made some camera money they have invested it in a nice set of white vans with orange lights on same as all the other scammers.

Funny how there are 2 accident black spots where I live with regular smashes, tipped over lorries etc but the vans are never parked near them. But they do park about a mile away where there has never ever in the history of the world been even a minor scrape but where the nature of the road means hey can guarantee a regular revenue stream...
