Behind my house is a timber mill, the access road for which is maybe a couple of hundred meters of smooth non speed bumped road.

This is a novelty in london, and as such in the evening, we will get a few people trying out there latest dust bin exhausts or hair dryer mopeds. They arent stupid though, and normally leave it to 3-4 laps before sodding off. As its behind a wall in terms of viewing from my flat, I cant see any reg plates, which is understandably of little use to the Police.

We have phoned the police before, both because of the noise, but also because normally the moped guy has no helmet, and people do use that road for walking dogs etc as its normally quiet. However, normally by the time i get through, they have gone.

Is there anything i can do to stop this? I dont want to become the first member of pistonheads to actual want speed calming devices!!

Stinger?

Maybe talk to the timber mill and stump up the cash for a 'CCTV Recording' sign and fake camera aimed at the road? That might be enough of a deterrent.

The threat of "being on camera" does seem enough to move most chavs on...

Or, speak to the timber mill and ask if they want to put a gate up, if the access road is to the mill only. You could point out that if it's directly behind the flats, someone could get a van up there and nick stuff from the flats and/or mill as appropriate.

Unurprisingly, i did think about a stinger.

Then i had visions of the moped going over it, it getting stuck on the nails and flinging the little scamp down the road, and me going to prison

Landmines? biglaugh

not quite on the same scale, but we used to live next to a small industrial estate. One of the units had an alarm that kept going off in the early hours, waking us up, (all false alarms). It always seemed to take the keyholders ages to turn up. So one night when it went off I thought right you buggers. Key holder turned up, unlocked security gates to estate, and drove in. I sneaked out of house with large chain and large padlock, shut gates and locked them. Went back to bed greatly amused. Funnily enough the false alarms seemed to get sorted out after that.

Contact your local councillor and invite him to listen and watch. Councillors like to get involved with anti-social behaviour - it gives us... er them a warm glow

Chavs in Drag -racing - take a video and give us a laugh

Seriously - local councillors a good idea - perhaps a video - though BE CAREFULL - not only from the personal safety angle - some of these scrotes like to use the pediophile angle, and then they can get mobs on a flimsy excuse (and lots of public support)

Dont think they'll care what cars you take along

I'd talk to the mill owner before councillors etc - just less official as a starting point, shows willing on your part.

We back onto communal gardens in SW19 with gates at either end so easy access for the chavs. They were a real censored nuisance for a while doing exactly what your lot are doing.

Merton Council and BiB sorted it out, quiet for 6 months now sleepcloud9

I say we take off and nuke 'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
