This afternoon, M4 westbound, within 200 yards of the camera in the temporary 50 limit, rather a nasty smash.

Now, fool that I am, I thought that speed cameras were there to stop accidents happening confused

You need to upload the picture to a hosting site on the internet and use the link for that to post the picture

Somewhere like flickr.com or photobucket.com

Panic braking for the camera? There are two cameras West bound and one East along that stretch with satelite dishes attached to them. Trouble is, although signed at 50, the average speed is around 70 as the cones have been there for so long with no work happening.

I was caught up in the miles of tailback from that accident right back near Swindon. Heard on the radio that the air ambulance was called in.

Was also caught up in the major accident this morning on the opposite carriageway - East bound, so not a good day.

I reckon half these accidents wouldn't happen if the bloody cameras were removed! Just look at all the skid marks on the camera white line markings, all being evidence of potential rear enders/pile ups, the major contributory factor being the camera. There would be far fewer accidents without speed enforcement on motorways, that causes drivers to do unexpected things and has no benefit at all.

Rubbernecking, can't get a good enough view of what's going on unless doing 15 mph...

OR.....

Some part of the accident, wreckage perhaps, has crossed to the other carriageway, and BiB have put some restriction in place until the evidence can be checked/moved. Obviously the injured get sorted out first.

Any BiB care to comment, especially what you think of the first option.
