Is the possible ban something that is only likely to be used if you were caught without a plate whilst suspected of speeding - therefore using one to prevent the others detection?

does the ban side apply if the plate is not of standard / regulatory type - e.g. an extremely small one with barely readable numbers as can be seen on many cars nowadays - if not, £30 fpn and 0 points v's 3 points & £60 fine first time a speed camera gets you.... scratchchin

I didnt have a front plate for about 18 months, it made the car look better! Eventually I was pulled by a bike copper & he was such a cool guy about it, he told me to 'do him a favour' & put it in the window until I got home then fit it. So I did!

I wasnt to worried about being pulled because as mentioned its only a small fine but the worry of parking anywhere & a BIB or traffic warden spotting it & stamping a ticket on it when your not there just isnt worth it after a while.

Huh??
Do you use either of the cars daily?
Where do you drive around that you get away with this for so long?
I would have thought in this day and gae they would have impounded your car and sent you to an open prison for three months for 'plotting to evade capture' or something!!

Lotus, out the garage once a week, usually very early Sunday morning & if pulled the plate would be the least of my worries! As a daily driver, parking on the road etc I dont see how you'd last more than a week or so, unless its really exotic, Zonda or Enzo style then maybe its just left alone?

Power of Criminal Courts (SDentencing ) Act 2000:

146. - (1) The court by or before which a person is convicted of AN OFFENCE committed after 31st December 1997 may, instead of or in addition to dealing with him in any other way, order him to be disqualified, for such period as it thinks fit, for holding or obtaining a driving licence.

This is ANY OFFENCE. Recall the case of the chap on foot warning those driving to attend a Car Boot that Plod was further down the road doing handheld. He was convicted and this section used to impose a period of disqualification even though he had not been in a motor.

Stick the number plate in the boot, but scrape and scuff the edges a bit. If you get pulled, just say it fell off (of course it uses Velcro )

Its 'donut time' for plod in these parts too busy crime fightn' to worry about such piffling matters.

I was once asked by an eagle eyed officer in Winchester,
but thats across the state line,

and therefore irrelevant

I have to say the Winchester bib are generally extremely good - several incidents I reported when I was living there were dealt with with far more vigour than I expected, yet a couple of pulls by the trafpol only resulted in a naughty-boy type warning.
