thought about this for a bit, but with so many ppl out there prepared to lie about their own bad driving than accepting they were at fault when they crash into you and then you get screwed over by your insurance company doing a 50/50 claim....

If I were to sort out the device in the rear view mirror that had one pointing forward and one pointing back (into the car interior), set the cameras to take pics every 3 secs or so and store them on a 4GB SD card, thus proving if someone was at fault if you had a crash....

What are the legal issues with doing this and taking pictures like this???

Has anyone created it yet??

Some Amrican insurers were doing this (Police Stop!)

It constantly saved like a minutes worth of video to disc, to keep thie last minute you hit a button, or in case of a collision it saves automatically

I picked up a DriveCam off ebay, some neat vids/pics here:

Somebody who drives more than my 7,500 miles a year could probably come up with a lot more interesting stuff...

If I was doing something like that now I would use one of the cheaper (but full-frame PAL) "multimedia jukeboxes" and use a decent video camera mounted near the rear view mirror.

Unless you site this to pick up the speedo then it won't collect everything that you might need to defend yourself. If you also pick up the speedo...

In any case, the pictures you collect might also be used to prosecute you. There have been a few "red faces" out there. If your driving is always impecable then it's a good idea.

I have a bullet cam and digital recorder on my bike (portable, so I can use it in the car). Battery life is 5 hrs (take more batteries if you need more) and the digital recorder holds more than I have recorded (ie I don't know the storae capacity). I don't tend to use it every day, though, just to have a record of that fantastic ride.
