Just followed a link to the West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership where they have a 'Public Opinion Poll'.

They proclaim this:

'It is only with consensus that we can move forward in reducing road deaths and injuries. Whether you agree or disagree with what we're trying to achieve, it does matter to us and we must find a way to debate the issues fully. That is what we are trying to do with our various community initiatives, with the information we issue and with this website.'

I thought I might like to disagree and debate the issues fully!

Their question of the week is this:

"Volunteers with “speed” cameras may soon take to the streets of Brighouse in a bid to cut speeding and save lives. The public meeting also voted to call for an immediate traffic review in Brighouse and called for more 20mph zones. "

Okay.... fair enough, so where do I vote....?

"Do YOU think there should be more 20mph speed zones in Calderdale?"

Excellent I thought, so I went to click - BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE BOX TO CLICK!

So I clicked and I was reported that this question has 100% support!!! I wonder where this figure is going to be used for propaganda!

So much for wanting to hear from people who 'disagree', or want to 'debate'!

Heres the link so you can look for yourself:

That is incredible.

If anyone is living in that area they have to fire an email off to them and complain about that. There is a contact link on the top of the page.
I would do it myself but what reasonable excuse would I have for complaining about something that is over 150 miles from me.

Your local newspaper may be interested in getting a reply from them?

I would write and ask what debate they are interested in when they allow a Yes vote only. Or are they checking out how the new Election Tickets are going to look, with Labour only on them.

Yes I followed that link spotted the only one box to click so cheated and looked at the results to see if the box led to another vote. It didn't so they didn't con my vote. :smug:

I agree though, might be worth watching out for and complaining when the inevitable ad comes out.

I imagine the ASA will want to know about it for sure. Misleading adverts suggesting support when there is no right/opportunity to register a negative. I would screen print that if I were you as a bit of proof.

Of course, no-one in the world is stupid enough to believe any internet voting system will lead to a 100% Yes vote. I hope.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

The ASA are currently in the process of approving an advert which directly contravenes what is stated in the highway code. One government agency supporting another rolleyes

I particulary like the quote from the Press Release about the speedwatch proposals:

"The organiser of the meeting, Danny Coll, called for drastic action. He said: "........We should get hold of speed cameras and stand out in the road to do checks."

Well, sorry Danny, but if you're going to stand out in the road hugging Gatsos, I'll just run you down at 1mph below the speed limit, before I arrange for your cohorts to be arrested for blocking a public highway.......

And before you ask, yes I do drive through Brighouse regularly. driving

All this from the same people who have a Scamera on the A64 Between Seacroft and Scholes. Drive that road from and to home every day and there is no sign of it as yet. They did put up some signs saying they are going to put one up after I'd pointed the matter out though. Rather Mysteriously there had been a set of flowers laid at the roadside But with no reports of an accident, it's hard to judge if one of the locals who like to cross at a cocky saunter had met their end?

They have changed the question!

It is now about what circumstances it is acceptable to break the speed limit.

I think we can do more by voting on these each week! The answer:

As an experienced driver, you feel it’s ok to drive at the speed YOU feel is safe regardless the speed limit signs is up to 79% already, I think we can get it higher!

Love the "you can click more than one" comment - no, you can't, they're radio buttons not checkboxes. Doh!

88% think its OK to drive at the speed YOU feel is safe regardless the speed limit signs.

*nod* yes indeed. I bet they'll class votes from PH'ers as 'erroneous'.

I think the fact that they have to resort to dodgy polls effectively highlights the real views of the masses. A few years ago I could easily find a numpty at work or in a group of my friends that would agree with speed cameras. Now they're harder to find

WTF?

Whioh is worse: the SCP leaving a button for the question, or the 3% who ticked that button?

Now 92%. And I laughed at that...plus the radio button for the question. I think THAT shows the 'quality' of the in-duh-viduals they have working for the SCP's!
