Just dropped off a heavy bag of samples to a customer.

I had parked my car as near as I could due to double yellows.

I had however parked with my front wheels on the lines.

Came out and saw a parking parasite running (!) from his van, slap a ticket on my widscreen and leg it back to his van where he joined his grinning driver.

Am I nicked as I have a photo of my car, (as they do) showing that 95% of my car was parked off the yellows.

Does that 1459 law (can't remember it exactly) still come into play?

Usually it's enough if one of your tyres is on the yellow lines.

I'd be more interested in can you show you were "unloading" (delivery note for the sample)? You are allowed some time for this...but it depends what you were unloading and if you can prove it.

The Traffic Regulation Order regarding the authority for the DYL will stipulate Waiting restriction on such and such a road from a point x yards/metres (ID Point) to a point yards /metres from (ID Point). If the vehicle stops anywhere within this range then OFFENCE. Overhang not permitted.

Check the Order to see if there is an exemption for loading/setting down - picking up.

Local Authority should have Order.

Notice that loading requires that you return immediately after loading (and doing paperwork if part of loading), and in any case no more than 20mins elapses.

For them not to ticket you, they need to see evidence of loading.

You may get out of it on appeal - particularly if you have some back-up to the fact that you were loading at the time. I'm told it works better with commercial vehicles.

This all supposes that loading was permitted in that place, which DYL tells you nothing about.
