Try 105 in a 50 overtaking a lorry (dualled). Didn't get me though. Long time ago now.

I slowed after that.

So 78 in a 50 seems such a low speed. Hello. Come in inhabitant of Planet Barmy, you're medication's ready. Stupid comment.

Depends on the road. I know plenty of 50 limit roads where 80mph would be an appropriate speed. This road was probably one of them, if plod set up a tax camera on it...

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, the fact remains that it was a, presumably, posted 50 limit. So, in the eyes of the law it was NOT an appropriate speed. This sort of behaviour just strengthens the Speed Camera lobby's case and is entirely counterproductive. He was travelling at over 50% above the posted limit. No excuses. Stop fighting the system and start working to get it changed.

Totally agree but there are better ways of fighting it than this. 78 in a 50 is not "fighting the law" it's being irresponsibly stupid. Rather like getting yourself shot and killed to protest about gun law in USA. Makes one helluva point but what does it do you ? Or are you all happy to lay down your cash and licences for your fellow man ? Stop funding the cameras.

Sorry, that kind of excess is just ammunition for the spoilers around. No, actually, I'm not sorry. You deserve everything they throw at you. If you blatantly exceed the posted limit at that speed then you shouldn't even complain.

He wasn't complaining, and he was asking on behalf of someone else.

Oops, sorry, but same still prevails. Too f...ing fast. We all push the limits from time to time, but 78 in a 50 is asking for trouble.

Depend on the magistrate on the day sometimes. Nip (no pun intended ..) over to the "pepipoo" site. They will advise as to legal advice available to present case for mitigating the outcome... und what to wear in court etc.

You can get anything from 3-6 points for this.. und a bigger f-fine und court costs.

What was this road? 50 mph dual carriageway.. 50 mph single? Fixed scam or van?

Think COAST - und get a useful gadget as well

You should campeign to bring the current elective dictaorship to an end. You don't just need a new MP, you need to sack ACPO and all the Whitehall manderins too. Indepenpence for the component parts of the UKofGB&NI is probably the easiest way to achieve this.

It's the limit that's wrong.

Always. No number on a stick can ever be equated with justice, ever.

I got caught - 76 in a 40. 6 points and £350 fine - after I sent a grovelling letter to the court.

Offence sounds worse than it was!

(M2 - temporary 40 limit for roadworks - no work taking place, no other cars on road, 3 full lanes open, 2:00 am in morning - and I could see the NSL sign for change of speed limit when I was flashed, although admittedly had not yet reached it)

I ignore speed limits. I choose my own speed based on the road and conditions. I keep my eyes peeled for cameras and plod. It's actually easier to do since traffic patrols were replaced with cameras.
