Road tax question
Discussion
I've had a car in a workshop being fettled for some months now. Around July/August time it gained an MoT certificate (first in nearly 10 years) and I planned to tax it in anticipation of collecting it soon after, for some later-summer driving.
Other mechanical niggles came to light, and only now is the car ready to pick up. Now, I am inclined to store it away for the winter and therefore I am reluctant to tax it. What would be the implications of being stopped between collection and arriving at my storage? The car is obviously fully insured and roadworthy.

Contact the DVLA who will be able to help you.
I know you can drive to a garage for an MOT without tax and MOT, I did this with my Golf.
But, if its got an MOT, Just buy 6 months tax, drive to the storage and cash the tax back in. you'll get 5 months tax back.

As Greatgranny said - tax it for a month and make sure the tax disk is on the car. The implications are severe certainly here in North Wales where the ploice put a great deal of effort in confiscating any cars without tax under what they claim are devolved powers given to the DVLA. This leaves you with £ 105 + £30 + a daily charge to get your car back.
The courts also deem that if the car has been off the road that you have been driving without tax for the whole of that period.
I was caught this way some years ago when I sold my wifes car which had been off the road a year. I posted the licence application on a Friday evening and drove the car to the buyers place 100 miles away. I thought I'd be OK. Not So.
