99 down the motorway, caught by a talivan without a van.

4 points and £200 fine plus £20 costs.

Wooo Sort of made up for the 4 hour wait for my case to be heard.

A good result, a ban would have notionally been on the cards for most people...

There but for the grace of God...

Congrats on a result you're obviously pleased with, regardless of whether it was even worth prosecuting you for (Public interest, 99mph on a motorway? - wow, think of the children!)

Congrats, you've done well.

If it had been 1mph more, would they have banned you?

I think the 100 has a psychological milestone, but if you look at it rationally that 1% difference, actually makes no practical difference.

I think this is a good sign. I have noticed a definate trend in more lenient sentencing for speeding over the last few years. 100 is not a definate ban any more, in fact the more likely outcome is 5 or 6 points, if that.

Perhaps with the greater number of people nabbed, it has diluted the stigma with the magistrates.

However, it must be said that I watched a programme the other day where the average fine for driving without insurance was £100 to £200.

It takes the mickey somewhat that the OP was faced with the same financial penalty, (I was fined £200 too for speeding) as drivers who habitually drive without insurance.

By banning people for making progress and sensible modern day speeds, surely it cuts down on revenue potential - "keep the drivers who like to make progress on the roads and with a bit of luck, we'll nab them a couple of times with the scameras." judge

4 points, not bad for 99/70. Mind you these days 99 is nothing. 159mph, now there's a proper speed for a motorway... rolleyes

I had 97 on a dual carriageway once, on the way to work, at night. Noticed a vehicle matching my speed after a few seconds but alas it was too late. Time I let off, the blue lamps in the grill came on.

Anyway this was flat out in a mark 3 1100cc Fiesta. I told the BiB I was late for work, which I was, to which he replied "well, you're gonna be even later now, aren't you?" Such wit.

He wrote Ford Fiesta 1600cc on the ticket. You can imagine the next sarcastic soundbite after I had to correct him to 1100cc.

Anyway my usual placid, polite and respectful manner saw a fixed penalty, 3 points and 60 bucks. The said BiB told me there was nothing wrong with my driving, it was just too much over.

I thought that was a good result.

Better than my 18 month ban, 1000 quid fine and extended retest for 144.30 in a 60 on a Honda Blackbird, but that's another story...

That is why they are looking at Graduated points. More convictions possible = more revenue to HMG.. Still, Speed Kills, Right?

OP, not a bad result that one.

While it could have been much worse it is still a disgrace that one can be p[er,ro]secuted for behaviour where there is no suggestion of either danger or irresponsibility.

Arbirary speed limits are oppressive and immoral.
