A New Political Party The Car Party at www.thecarparty.org.uk launched on the 6th November, members are welcome to join and we are about to lauch a major media campaign against all forms of road charging, high fuel taxes, parking etc. We will campaign against Gatso cameras, and Toll roads, black box charging and against congestion charges. The train companies are ready to introduce staged pricing for increased traffic during the rush hours. The motorist now has a political voice, please use it. Good news, but that website requires serious work. When you say party, is this a party of one?

Idea: 10/10
Website: 2/10
Chances of anyone in power sitting up and taking notice: 1/10

Well, if EVERY single member (and there would need to be thousands) agreed to not use the car on X day etc. then watch them sit up and take notice as the tax revenue plummits.

Complacency is the major British disease, the second one is criticising the few that aren't!!! At least someone is strong enough to fight our cause!!

They aren't fighting our cause. They will put a insititution together that will go precisely nowhere at all. I hope they prove me wrong.

I like it. Isn't this similar to the ABD? Any connection?

Aren't you just the sparkling optimist then!!??
What cause is it you think they stand for if not the motorist?
The truth of the matter in this country is that the attitude and mentality you display on here is exactly why successive governments have imposed their dreadfully destructive policies on the British public: that, and as GJ says, complacency.
What few people realise is just how much ALL of our lives are affected by transport.
Think about it; cars, aircraft, HGVs, trains, boats, bikes, every mode of transport needs systems to sustain and service it.
Our whole existence is deeply dependant on, and affected by, transport.
A single issue party?
I think not!!

But who are the people behind it? Why don't they tell us about themselves on the website?

I'm interested in supporting, but want to know more about them.

For sure there is work to do on the website, but I would imagine most people on here would support the sentiment of their policies 100%.

Rather than winge lets support them, lets face it there is plenty of ammunition. Surely much of what Paul Smith from Speedsafe says goes 100% in hand with their policies.

If this party could align itself with the Tories perhaps we could influence the policy of the next government, which I hope will be Tory (and less Blairite).

Except that they do claim to be moderate and not resorting to an excessively negative stance.

Strange... I've never found total accuracy and brutal honesty negative in any way.
I have found however that it leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of those who would seek to ignore or discredit it.

I've not yet seen much sign that they are likely to form a government in the near future. Grabbing some attention and support as a pressure group is one thing. Winning a General Election is quite another. I think one would need to be able to set out reasonably plausible policies on most of the major issues to achieve that. Look at all the money Sir James Goldsmith put into his campaign - and he achieved very little on election day.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

The green party did exactly what they set out to do, politics isn't only about who gets elected to run the country. Much more sucessful to persuade the big parties that they will loose votes to you if they don't change their policies. This way all main parties take up your cause...
