Here is a press release from the West Yorks Scamera site, folloiwng the "Is it ever OK to speed?" question.....
"80% of motorists believe it’s okay to ignore speed limits and drive at the speed THEY think is right. A survey into attitudes towards speeding carried out by West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership asked people if they thought there were ever circumstances when it was acceptable to break the speed laws.
· 10% (329 votes) said it was okay on motorways
· 2% (52 votes) said late at night
· 13 votes (statistically 0%) said it was alright "if everyone else around me is also driving over the speed limit"
· only 7 respondents said it was never acceptable to speed
· But 2661 people (80%) answered Yes to the question: "As an experienced driver, do you feel it’s ok to drive at the speed YOU feel is safe regardless of the speed limits?"
The high number who are prepared to drive regardless of the speed limit helps explain why "speeding" remains the single biggest root cause of crashes causing death and serious injury on local roads, despite the overall downward trends in casualty figures, says partnership chair Steve Thornton. "Drivers who choose to exceed the speed limit are just selfish and need to be more considerate of other road users. They are knowingly putting themselves and everyone around them on the road in harm’s way."

Yup, we should have known.
Result like we got: "People think its OK to speed. Evil people. We need more speed cameras as they're all dangerous drivers"
If the result had been totally the other way: "People think its never OK to speed. We need more speed cameras to make sure people never speed."
80% of drivers think its OK to speed, so that makes them dangerous? I don't think so......
Are 80% of drivers involved in KSI collisions......? Nope.

How do they get away with this:

I was under the impression that "speeding" had benn proved to not be the biggest cause of crashes and that casualties were rising overall,Oh sorry,it's a scamera pratnership's stats isn't it? I should've known...

Have just sent an enqiury to this bunch of w
s, which reads as follows...
You seem a bit disappointed by the results of your recent survey on attitudes to speeding, where the consensus of opinion was that it was OK to drive at a speed that was deemed safe by the experienced driver. You seem not to agree with the consensus view, despite the following quote from your own website: "It is only with consensus that we can move forward in reducing road deaths and injuries. Whether you agree or disagree with what we're trying to achieve, it does matter to us and we must find a way to debate the issues fully. That is what we are trying to do with our various community initiatives, with the information we issue and with this website."
If you can only move forward with consensus, and the consensus is what has been given, then how can you get away with your attitude?
And yes I do drive through your area from time to time, I do not have any points on my licence, and I do not expect a reasoned reply to this enquiry.
Let's see what they make of that.

An entirely predictable (and logically flawed) response. I'll lay odds that, had the result been the other way around, they would be trumpeting the fact that speed policy must be right because so many people agree with it (also logically flawed). Simply put, people's attitude to speed controls is irrelevant to whether they are effective or not.
To be fair, we knew it was going to run that way.
BUT, we can e-mail them (well, anyone in Yorkshire) and suggest that as a Democracy, if the MAJORITY want to speed, then they oughtn't to be criminalised for doing so. The Govt ONLY have the authority to rule because that is given by the "Majority".

Words like "root cause". And, basically, just telling lies. The statisticians the scums employ know full well they're telling porkies.

How about a new poll....
Do you think West Yorkshire Scamera Partnership are...

You missed out the famed ability to vote for the question itself!
However, the missing ability to vote against the zeitgeist is perfect!
Perhaps you should apply for a job there

The problem is that if the masses read lies often enough they believe them. As with climate change, so it is with 'speed kills' and WMD.
Please don't confuse the massed agreement of thousands of professors, with bunkum road traffic research/government policy/backdoor taxation, and an excuse to protect the resources that are creating climate change in the first place...
This is the reply that I got to my recent communication with this wunch of bankers...
REPLY: Dear Andrew,
It's difficult to understand how you can have jumped to these erroneous conclusions based upon the item about the attitudes to speeding survey results in "Latest news". There is absolutely no suggestion in the item that we are "disappointed by the results" or that we "do not agree with the consensus view". We merely report the results and the figures. No doubt others will express their views about drivers who admit they ignore speed limits and so put themselves and others at risk, but we have expressed no view other than that they need to be more considerate of other road users.
The whole point about opinion polls on this website is to give people the opportunity to express their views about a wide range of road safety and casualty reduction issues. It's about THEM, not about US. That's also why we have a website and welcome and publish people's comments and questions. Including yours!
This, as I'm sure you agree, doesn't quite sit right with their attitude to the survey.
Have just sent this reply to them..
This is what I mean about your attitiude.... (another quote from your website)
"Drivers who choose to exceed the speed limit are just selfish and need to be more considerate of other road users."
(said in response to the survey results).
Face up to facts, 80% of the population basically do not agree with your activities, or are all of your surveys useless rubbish? If that is the case you can never use another one to support your arguments. You can't have it both ways.
let's see what they make of that.
