...when someone had been on their way to Le Mans earlier in the year, and got caught at a speed well in excess of the limit, been told the fine was 750 Euros, paid it, and went on there way. Suppose that they recently may have received a letter in French asking for more Euros, what would be the advice you would give to them?

Suppose they thought that the French police were a bunch of money greedy shits, and this person thought that they could shove their Subaru Imprezas up their arses, what would the appropriate action be?

Also, suppose this person knew a little French, and was able to decifer that they had 30 days to pay from the date of the letter, but the letter arrived after 30 days (and was sent 3 weeks after the letter had been produced) and was not signed for by the addresse, like it was supposed to be, what would happen?

Thanks for any answers, I'll pass this on to him.

No, my friend said that the 750 was listed on the papers he got, but was taken from 1000 euro fine. He was never told this when he paid the 750.

Yes, I have heard of people getting a second request for 750 Euros. I believe the first one is like a fixed bail payment (otherwise they lock you up) then the second one is the actual fine itself, possibly as a result of a court hearing?

There's your answer... If it was supposed to be signed for and wasn't, I'd be introducing it to File 13.

A similar thing happened to me some years ago. I was shephearded off an autoroute by a possee of motorcycles, ushered into a blue van and was parted from some money. Later (a month or so) came a request for more after my case had been before the magistrates. My assessment was that I was collared "bang to rights" and that it was better to pay up and have the matter closed rather than leave it unsettled as (particularly) I was likely to return to France fairly often. It's all a matter of risk assessment. I don't think they ask for more for minor infringements and in my case I have kept the ticket as I didn't think the car would go that fast. Perfectly safely though
