double yellow line signage

Do double yellow lines have to be confirmed by street signage etc, or is the fact the lines are there sufficient in law to uphold a parking ticket?
(PS Sorry but I have also posted under general gassing by mistake - perhaps the two threads could be amalgamated.)

Only if the LA have not applied for a Permitted Parking Area and Special Parking Order which decriminalises the offence. Parking restrictions are mentioned on a sign at the start of the area (Zone) which covers no further signage for lines at intervals where no Order in Force. But if Order in force there should be a sign if the restriction changes to another at the change.
Identity me the Town where you live and I will see if I can bring up the Order,
