Just a quick question for the BiB on here (or anyone else who knows) to satisfy my curiosity....

In the scale of Motoring Offences, I assume that the "scale of seriousness" for offences to be tried at court (i.e no FPN possible) is as follows:

Causing Death by Dangerous Driving
Causing Death by Careless Driving (Or is that the same offence?)
Dangerous Driving
Driving whilst under the Influence of Drink and/or Drugs
Driving Without due Care and Attention
Driving without due Consideration for Other Road Users

What are the Standard Scale penalties for these (and have I missed any obvious ones out?)

Linky will do if you don't feel in the mood to type out chapter-and-verse here.

Cheers.

Death by careless doesn't exist yet.

There are a raft of new offences such as death by careless, death without a licence, death whilst disqualified etc that are coming.

And lets hope that the penalties to go with them are actually worthwhile.

Not just the typical "Death whilst disqualified? Oh, a 12 month ban, then......"

I don't really understand why there needs to be so many separate offences. Why can't causing death by motor vehicle be treated as a subset of manslaughter? Why such a fine-grained distinction?

It goes back to the age old problem of proving 'recklessness' Death by reckless was notoriously diificult to prove, 'Dangerous' is a lot simpler definition.

More law, less sense. Again.

All this stuff is covered already.
